Title: Strategy for short term trading
Description: Any more CNY 2007 rally?

Hc - January 28, 2007 06:28 AM (GMT)
We are now 3 weeks away from CNY, I am not sure if there is further rally from now on. Market is definetly getting nervous and cautious.

What is your (stock) trading strategy? Will you trying to reduce overall exposure and gradually scaling out from the market?

For me, I think as the market get choppy, this is the time to switch to buy on weakness and sell on strength strategies.

Any comment?

Got to be careful as how you change your portfolio, so that it won't end up with 3 long 2 short ( 三长两短 ).

:P

I check the charts. Sometime decline, sometime rally and sometime sideway
the month going into the CNY. Therefore the so called CNY rally is an illusion,
an imaginary thing, a hope thing. One that has no consistency as the charts
show.

I was hoping to see something similar to the Oct-Dec thing I did. But nothing
of the sort.

But people will still insist there is such a thing especially when it hapen to
rally just before CNY, like it sometimes did in the past.

The game now is,
if you are caught long,
you will be smiling again soon.

Don't jump the gun!

Undead:

You are right on the market direction today.

Just curious, how you come up with that conclusion?

Undead - February 2, 2007 11:59 PM (GMT)
HC,

I hate to disappoint you,
but I am clueless about the market direction.

I almost had a killer system,
the results were perfect.

Then I realized,
Instead of referencing the previous day’s data,
I was looking a day ahead.

Finally I understand,
The direction of the market,
needs no analysis,
but a crystal ball.

HC,

Short Term Strategies.

Longer term strategies can be candidates for short term trading.
For example,
The interpretation for
moving averages crossover on daily charts,
is the same as moving averages crossover on 5 mins charts.

Some traders use daily charts for next day intraday trading.
For example,
calculation of pivot points for next day trading.

Retracement strategy,

Buy retractment of the bigger trend.
Bet Big.
Not looking for home run.
Not letting profits turn into losses.

Or Overbought/Oversold strategy,
For example,
for 5 Feb 07
looking to sell simsci
if it breaks support @ xxx.
Big bets,
1 tick risk,
very aggressive stops.

simsci too hot on friday?
burned the system?
simex is down.
short term strategy is to sleep haha

Just image if someone with a big overnight position who is waiting to exit today, seeing the unavailability of trading must make he mad.

:)

cash market should be able to open
nikkei is down 1%,
perhaps we should short sell sgx for having such a lousy system
:D

sti open up,
so some traders say kelong,
but asian markets up ex japan

Everybody was trying to match Timsci opening
that they forgot about Simsci.

(But it is very reasonable to do timsci because the opening spread is very good,
TWH07 opens 326.7, TWG07 @ 322.6 and the spead is doing 1.1, that is 30 ticks per contract,
even if you do outright it is also good)

Once upon a time,
the matching game was quick and good money for locals,
but now it is not,
because everybody is doing it.

This is efficent.

The fate of the Japanese markets today will be determined in Simex,
from 745 to 8am.

The MOO players will have about 5 mins to play as a somewhat important industrial production will be out 750am.

After that the 10 mins, bigger boys will try to position themselves before Japan open for business.

Just toss a coin!

---

Simsci and Timsci will be interesting.
Frankly speaking, they are not as efficent as Nikkei.
That is to say, panick sellers will call and MOO.

What will the dealers do?
For example place orders to sell simsci at 300,
silly as it sounds,
the MOO players will definately get their wishes.

Of course some players who think they are smarter will push the market up,
and whatever the jackpot opens at 845, we cant be sure.

But we hope someone will make a mistake!

By the way simsci SQ today,
the already kelong market has more reason to kelong at 9 am

Limit down..
who is going to be stupid

Edited after market open
(Of course it wont limit down, but look at what i mean ?
how did it open ?
if they want to make mistakes, why let them off ?)

Trading is really about getting the outliers.
Will not come often.
But you should be aware.

Markets opening after a crisis,
sometime there can be opportunities.

Many made a big killing that morning,
it based on common sense.

Nobody and no books will teach you that,
its within u, the common sense.
Be brave and use it.

For chartists.

There's indication of selling by the big boys, at least for the opening.
Beside the technicals were not looking good.

Now it is trading outside the zone.
Suppose there's an indication of the a change in trend, I want to bet that it will go back into the zone.
