Title: Emergency Backup Power On!
Description: Not sure why the main forum is down
Paddles - January 25, 2006 05:06 PM (GMT)
Hi all,
Sorry about the main forum being down. I have no idea why it is down. I sent an emergency trouble ticket to the Invision hosting guys, but no reply has been received.
I guess we'll just have to wait it out here in the bunker :)
Donster - January 25, 2006 05:21 PM (GMT)
Sooooooo...did you forget it was your turn to feed the hampster Dougie? :D
You know, not having the forum has caused me great pain and suffering. I swept out the garage, took out the trash, cleaned the cat's litter boxes, and went and got some groceries. This work is killin' me!!! ;) :D
Spectre_USA - January 25, 2006 05:22 PM (GMT)
Ah, cool, you stocked the "E"-bunker.
>crack<
Brewski? :D
Paddles - January 25, 2006 05:29 PM (GMT)
Hey, Donnie,
Do you have emails for some of the forum regulars? If so, could you fire out a few rounds to them to let them know about the backup forum?
Thx, bro :)
The Skipper - January 25, 2006 05:33 PM (GMT)
Great. I was just about to jump. Actually forgot this joint was here.

Sorry, Donnie.
I feel your pain, dude. Since the forum went down, I just noticed that the wife re-decorated the entire living room. When did that happen!?
:D :D

Ok, glad to know that this is temporary. Now we need to know two other things:
What went wrong?

Who to blame

The Skipper - January 25, 2006 06:56 PM (GMT)

After two unanswered EMERGENCY trouble tickets, and nothing posted in the support forums about any outages, I was about to give up when I stumbled into a very out of the way corner of the support forums called "Customer to customer support".
In there was a topic posted by a guy who wanted to know why his board had been down all day today. There was a reply by an InvisionZone staffer saying they were having technical difficulties and were working on it.
Nice! I send in two EMERGENCY trouble tickets and get no response for hours (still haven't gotten a response). I then go into their so-called support forum and there's no announcement about any tech probs or server outages.
Finally, after I do some serious hunting, I find an in-direct comment about the issue.
I'm not irate, but I seriously unimpressed with InvisionZone over their handling of this outage. To not communicate openly, honestly, and in a timely manner with paying customers is a very bad sign that does not auger well.

So....this is where we go if aliens attack :)
I figured that this was a result of the federal election.....and that everybody in Alberta went on the booze and the whole infrastructure collapsed :D

So does this mean we're here for the duration? Better check my stash of JD 'fore Stans finds the "bunker".
Paddles - January 25, 2006 09:02 PM (GMT)
Skip,
I don't think we're here for the duration, but we may be here for 24 hours.
If it goes longer than that, I'll open up the other areas of the bunker (the other topics that are currently locked).
:)

Excellent response by the Admin team,I say! (Suck, suck!) I would assume that we all get double bonus points towards more Babes, right? Only for the disadvantaged,of course! So my Attorney tells me,har, har!
mane_raptor - January 25, 2006 11:02 PM (GMT)
Oh sure, and this just has to happen the day I get my new Big Rig up and running.
Boy, does PF look nice with Perfect settings
Only big problem so far..............I forgot the modem!!!!!! D'OH!!!!!!!!
And one other small problem.....the only case fans he had in the shop were these neon thingmies that keep changing color. Just does not go with this camo'd retro case I put together for it.

Just got word from the InvisionZone guys.
They say they hope to have the forums back online by 7pm EST today.
Fingers 'n toes crossed. :ph43r:

Aha!!!! And you thought you could out smart me? And I though I had internet problems? Well, actually, I couldn't get a connection to anything until 06:23, then CSIM wasn't responding. I come home, fire up the computer and can't get a connection until 18:21 and find that CSIM went on the blink. Hope the real CSIM will be up soon.

It's 19:01 EST, no CSIM. :(
Oh, they "hope" to have it back up by 7 PM EST, and I guess Comcast "hopes" they can figure out why I can't get an upload signal at certain times of the day. :P
Paddles - January 26, 2006 01:18 AM (GMT)
8:15 pm MST. Still nada on the main forum.

Stans - January 26, 2006 01:35 AM (GMT)
20:33 and CSIM still down and my ISP connection still sucks!!! It worked as advertised for exactly 44 minutes, then back to barely downloads and don't think of uploading anything more than four lines of text. :(
The Skipper - January 26, 2006 02:15 AM (GMT)
2117 and still looks like a no-go.
Stans has the beer.

Hi guys,
Well, after I finally showed my disgruntlement in a public post (very diplomatically, yet sternly, worded) over the stonewalling about this server outage, I finally got a straight reply:
| QUOTE |
Believe me when I say I'm just as frustrated as you and am aware that server17 has had its share of issues. S17 was one of a batch of new, supposedly improved Dell servers we tried and have been severely disappointed in. S17 along with the other servers in the batch will be migrated to new machines that we've found to be far more reliable. That is part of the delay with S17 as we speak... the server suffered a failure like we've never seen before, prompting an entire rebuild... so we're taking this unfortunate opportunity to completely rid customers on that machine of the headaches.
After all of the kinks are worked out, you should notice significant improvement!
Once again, I'm terribly sorry for your inconvenience and understand your frustration completely. We're doing our best to get things back in motion -- it shouldn't be too much longer now. :)
|
This explains why the server has been so slow lately.
If what they say is true, the new and improved forum hardware will have us posting on full WEP.
(No one messes wid my peeps!)
Schatten - January 26, 2006 02:51 AM (GMT)
Huh, just shot Shawn an email on my other account asking him if the forum was down, then for schitzengiggles checked the "normal" one and Donnie had the hook up. Wish I woulda checked that...ohhhh about 8 friggin' hours ago!
Now where's the beer?
And babes. I need comfort babes.
:D

Oh and the news I was so busting to tell y'all is this:
1) The movie "Flyboys" about the Escadrille Lafayette in World War I is in post production and supposed to be out middle of the year-ish. Appearently there's a teaser for the Cannes Film Festival floating around somewhere and I'm trying to get my hands on it.
2) Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings and King Kong fame is appearently looking to make a WWI aviation film as well. He's doing a full on Lord of the Rings expo at one of the NZ museums for a strange fee...see the last one he did cost the museum a cool half-million Kiwi Kopeks, so they couldn't afford another one. But he was willing to take something else as the fee for the expo: He said if they could find him an original Sopwith Camel rotary engine he'd trade the expo for it! Cool eh? Appearently he's really gotten into "antique" aviation lately and is using his newly found fortune to buy himself original old prop planes, artifacts, etc. Here's hoping he gets interested in WWII too eh wot? No confirmation on what WWI aviation movie theme he's going with but there was a rumor that he was the one that was going to do the remake of The Blue Max. :o
3) Oh yeah there's appearently going to be a remake of The Blue Max, even if it isn't Peter Jackson doing it. It's all manner of murky and whatnot.
So anyhow, definately 2, possibly 3 WWI aviation movies coming out soon to soon-ish.
In other news...
Oleg still sucks.
:P
