Prayers to the victims, their families, and all the great people of Britian. Now to see who claims responcibility. Al Queda? The IRA? The French because they didn't get the 2012 Olympics? My bet is bin Hidens boys.

Well, apparently:

Scotland Yard 'warned of attacks'

British police told the Israeli Embassy in London minutes before Thursday's explosions they had received warnings of possible terror attacks in the city, a senior Israeli official said.

Israel was holding an economic conference near the scene of one of the explosions. Israeli Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was supposed to attend, but the attacks occurred before he arrived.

Just before the blasts, Scotland Yard called the security officer at the Israeli Embassy and said warnings of possible attacks had been received, the official said. He did not say whether British police made any link to the economic conference.

Targetting buses are more of a Palestinian (PLO? Or is that someone else) style, and the Israeli connection...and we all know who they're funded by.

Although the IRA is a possability.

The Skipper - July 7, 2005 12:04 PM (GMT)
My guess is either to coincide with the G-8, or the olympics announcement. Last report I heard said an unknown (new or insignificent) group had claimed responsibility.

Bismarck - July 7, 2005 12:06 PM (GMT)
:( So sad! I hope they catch somebody. London is so lovely.

Baltar - July 7, 2005 12:25 PM (GMT)
Probably AL Quada with the planning and synchronization but there have been some pretty aggressive G-8 protestors causing problems. This is probably well out of their league though.

Hope your guy turns up ok Tazzers.

Stag - July 7, 2005 12:34 PM (GMT)
I'm nowhere near london; been catching a few zzz's.

WTF???

Stag - July 7, 2005 12:50 PM (GMT)
"An Islamic group has claimed responsibility", though the name they gave themselves was so convoluted, I wonder if it was a hoax call?

But hoax call or not, Its finally happened. It looks like shlt, it smells like shlt, it's AQ.

British Moslems were in that attack too. I wonder what that will say to the scumbags over here who think they're heroes?

Tazzers - July 7, 2005 12:52 PM (GMT)
Its okay thanks lads Suds is okay.

Amen Taz. Good to hear.

Good to hear Tazzers.

It's definately Al Qaeda, the MO is there and the bus at least was a suicide bomber, the IRA never went in much for suicide bombings plus Al Qaeda Europe is claiming responsibility. They seem to be mixed up with Ansar Al Islam and didn't the Brits just deport some of them like last week?

And just now on the news Al Qaeda in Iraq is claiming they killed the Egyptian envoy to Iraq.

As for the Israeli thing that's ridiculous, just like Islamic Jihad said that Mossad told all of the Jews to not go to work on 9/11. Everytime there's an attack anywhere someone gets on Al Jazeera and says that the Israelis knew about it ahead of time but didn't tell.

The timing probably had more to do with the G-8 summit than it did with the Olympics, less than 24 hours isn't enough time to pull off a coordinated attack like this. Plus look at what happened in Spain, they did it and the (now ex-)Spanish government was quick to blame it on the Basques which turned out to be wrong, maybe they were thinking the Brits would blame either the IRA or, more likely, the anti-G-8 protestors and have the same result of making the government look bad. The Brits aren't stupid though and when more than one bomb goes off, especially a suicide bomb, you know who to look at.

On the bright side, if there is one, London is full of security cameras so maybe they got pictures of the perpetrators and can run down their known associates. I hope so, and I hope the bastards resist arrest just enough to get some MP-5 love from an Armed Response bloke.

I know Badger is from the UK, hope he's okay as well. And Cuteness seems to be British too. Keeping my fingers crossed for them.

Paddles - July 7, 2005 01:57 PM (GMT)
Well, this is all very ungood.

My wife, Gail, and her parents, and her brother and his wife and two young daughters are in London on holiday. Gail, however, was flying out of Gatwick airport at about 8:15 am London time and the explosions went off at 8:50 am London time. Gail actually phoned me last night from Gatwick about an hour before her boarding time.

I checked the website of the airline she's flying on and it said all flights were still operating as normal, so, since I haven't heard anything from her, I assume she got on her flight and I should be picking her up at the Calgary airport in about 2 hours. Had she been delayed at Gatwick, I'm sure I would've heard something from her by now.

This now leaves the question about Gail's family. They were staying in a rented house right in the heart of London. At 2:30 pm London time, I called the number where they were staying but no answer. I'm not jumping to any conclusions, but I know I'll feel better when I get a hold of them.

:(

Doc - July 7, 2005 02:03 PM (GMT)
Keep the faith Paddles, my prayers are with all of London today...

Schatten - July 7, 2005 02:08 PM (GMT)
What Doc said Doug.

From what it's saying on the news all the phones in London are FUBAR because they shifted the lines to give priority to the emergency services. So the fact that you can't get through may be nothing at all.

But I'll still be hoping and praying for the best just in case.

You got that right Schatt , hopefully they find the bastages responsable and give them a 2.30am wake call curtisy of the SAS and H&K

Rjel - July 7, 2005 02:56 PM (GMT)
Paddles,

Your family is in our thoughts. Beyond that, the words escape me.

Stag - July 7, 2005 03:04 PM (GMT)
Praying for the best, Doug.

Paddles - July 7, 2005 03:10 PM (GMT)
On the phone with them now. They're okay. Whew!

Apparently, they were supposed to go to the Zoo today which would have put them in harms way, but they changed their plans at the last moment and went to the Tower of London.

Thanks, guys, for your kind words and thoughts.

Now, my thoughts and prayers are with the rest of the people of London. :(

Ogdens - July 7, 2005 04:08 PM (GMT)
Do not fear my friends. The British spirit is stronger than terrorism, we'll be a beacon to the world of how not to panic and take it all in stride. My family is safe thank God as many of them live and work in the city. I hope to be leaving soon for England to see them.

For good intelligent news coverage in the US I recommend BBC America, already Fox and CNN have started the usual over dramatics and knee jerking which stands them apart from the actual spirit displayed even by those interviewed on the scene who were hurt in the attacks this morning.

We shall not be moved.

Mick

Good to see everyone with family/friends in London. My neighbour Val reports she's heard from family and all is good.

Sad day.

Given the date of the the G8 meeting was known well beforehand, and significant protester turnout is pretty much a given, it may be an opportunity not to be missed. I'd be suprised if this had anything to do with the G8 summit or the Olympics, but just a very good opportunity to try something. It does seem to bear the stamp of AQ on it.

One has to wonder about hitting London. Something of an exercise in futility. I mean they've been there, done that and MAKE the bloody T-shirts. From what I'm seeing on tv interviews of Londoners they knew it was a matter of when, not if, such a thing would be tried.

The efficacy of the London response teams has been given high marks so far. A further indication that such an attack was expected to be attempted. Hats off to them.

Well that's 4 of the 6 countries on AQ's list that have been hit. :(

Hail Britannia.

Joker - July 7, 2005 04:10 PM (GMT)
Glad to hear everybody's family and friends are okay.

Still waiting to hear from some of my London acquaintances.

Prayers for the victims and their families.

all over the news here today, Glad to hear all our immediate CSIM family is well as well as everyone else!

Baltar - July 7, 2005 05:50 PM (GMT)
One thing I really admire about the Brits is how level headed they can be in a crisis. The old lady next door can tell stories of bombs falling around her house when she was a little girl. I guess the IRA also tempered London for this sort of thing. All the interviews I have seen show people to be very collected, even those with injuries.

Interestingly Islamic leadership in the London area have disparraged the attacks, knowing this sort of thing is only going to consolidate people. Still it boggles me what these people who perpetrate the attacks think will be accomplished.

Indeed.

Ever buy a Cadbury bar from a snack machine in the Underground -- then looked around in vain for a bin in which to dispose of the wrapper?

No trash cans. Likely place for IRA bombs.

The Brits know how to deal with terrorists, that's for sure. And they don't scare. Not even a little bit. Don't expect Great Britain to react as Spain did. Johnny Jihad doesn't know what he's started, here.

As somebody else said, today we're all British. America stands ready to support our courageous cousins.

God Save the Queen!

That's just it. I really don't believe these "people" hope to accomplish anything in this world. It's what they expect to happen when they reach their version of heaven. That scares me. How can anyone hope that we can stop that thought process, short of exterminating an entire culture. Which scares me even more.

Ogdens - July 7, 2005 08:35 PM (GMT)
I trully believe this is a turning point in the war against terrorism. Having spent the last few hours listening and digesting reports from the BBC it is apparant that many of the people hurt or killed might well be of foreign descent as well as Londoners and even of Muslim faith in fact, one of the areas attacked, Edgeware Rd station is known as "Little Arabia" The doctors in the area that mobilised quickly to help were of mixed nationality.

History showed that attacks on London during WW2 were a blunder and I might hasten to suggest we are witnessing a similar blunder which may in fact unify nations and religeons against those who perpertrated these attacks. I hope that Great Britain will take this moment in time to rally the rest of the world behind them in what could indeed be a valuable opportunity to irradicate these terror groups but this time with the help and full support of the entire civilised world.

Ogs.

Baltar - July 7, 2005 08:56 PM (GMT)
Joker it took me about two years to understand why there were no bins! But yes that is exactly why. Brits are tough folks and won't cower from this. They have been through much much worse than this.

Ogdens and countrymen, this is an attack on the west in general and the perpetrators have just done more harm to their cause than they can imagine.

My heart goes out to all Londoners and all of Great Britain in this terrible tradgedy. It just senseless violence against innocent civilians. Sneak attacks by a faceless felon. You ask what do they hope to accomplish? I will tell you, then I will post no more on this topic. They seek what Adoph Hitler sought. Domination of the world and the elimination of the Jewish race. If Tony Blair and his country (notice I did not say his government because many of them may wish to open a dialogue with the terrorist and that is like trying to teach logic to a rattlesnake) determine it was a terrorist group (and it is most likely Al Quada, how many noticed that the attacks started at nearly the exact same time of day as the attack in NY, NY on Sept. 11, 2001?) and that they originated from a country, say Iran, and he pushed for war, I would have to support him. They have made it very clear, it is a war and it is either going to be them or us who survive.

I have spoken my piece, I will say no more, I do not wish to get into hot water on this board.

cobraj - July 8, 2005 01:51 AM (GMT)
flew my Union jack on my flagpole today! This flag was gift to me from Bilko. The last time I put it out on the porch was when the Queen Mum Died. My prayers again to all those affected by this cowardice!

geg - July 8, 2005 05:11 AM (GMT)
The British response, has been something else. Well it's been somewhat British. They even went on to beat the Aussie at the cricket while this was going on :)

You've obviously never lived in an area where mosquitoes are prevalent then.
