And he's really niether. He was a young Marine Corporal from A Company, 3rd Recon BLT, 3rd MarDiv. Cpl Glyn Linal Runnels, Jr. was aboard a CH-46-A that was shot down over South Viet Nam. He has been listed as Kill In Action/Doby Not Recovered along with three other Marines and a hospital corpsman.

REMARKS:
SYNOPSIS: Commander John M. Leaver was assigned as a staff officer to Commander
Cruiser Destroyer Group 7th Fleet. On May 8, 1972, he and Captain Edmund B.
Taylor were passengers aboard a helicopter attempting to make a night landing on
the fantail of the USS PROVIDENCE (CLG-6). The helicopter crashed and fell
overboard.
Leaver and Taylor were both lost in the crash and their remains were never
located. They are listed with honor among the missing because no remains were
found.

I found this site and your post via a web search of my username.
Gerald's *Jerry* remains have come home. I have lots of information, pictures and more if you are interested in learning about him. I have even had the pleasure of meeting his family and being welcomed into their family as a friend. I was invited to his memorial service last September. What an honor.
