In a world where mutants are feared and even hated, two sides struggle for power. The X-men, under the leadership of Charles Xavier, fight to protect the humans and to bring peace to the world, attempting to show that mutants are not to be feared. The Brotherhood, under the leadership of Magneto, fight to bring total domination of the mutants to fruition. These two sides are locked in a constant struggle, battle after battle fought.

But while they fight, the humans plot their own course of action, secretly building an army of mutant hunting machines called Sentinels. So big did their force become, that when they unleashed them on the world, the mutants never stood a chance.

Mutant enslavement camps were set up as the Sentinels hunted down and captured, or killed, the mutants. Their advanced systems and armor made them all but unstoppable except to the most powerful of mutants. The Brotherhood, safely hidden in Antarctica, has so far been untouched, and they've used the Sentinels threat to bolster their numbers and to defeat the X-men.

With the X-men sent on missions to stop the Brotherhood, the Sentinels attacked the Xavier Institute, scattering the mutants there and capturing man. With no home to go to, the X-men were overrun on their missions and forced to flee, becoming scattered across the globe. As they wander in search of their friends, they fight against the Brotherhood and the human armies for survival, doing everything they can not to kill while the Brotherhood does the opposite.
