Then

Lawrence, Kansas, November 2, 1983. Young mother of two Mary Winchester wakes to the cries of her six month old son, Sam. Moments later, Mary is dead and the Winchester home is up in flames. On the lawn firefighters and rescue workers scramble to put out the deadly blaze while a shattered family – John and his two sons, Dean and Sam – are huddled close by, looking on at what once was. Nothing will ever be the same for the Winchester family.

Time passes as it always does; raised on the back roads, abandoned hunting cabins in forests, cheap motels and traveling across the country in a classic car, Sam and Dean have grown up, taught by their ex-marine father to hunt the things that go bump in the night, always searching for the demon that killed their mother. Sam is now twenty-two and after a falling out with his father, has been attending Stanford University in California and earning high marks. Dean on the other hand is twenty-six but unlike Sam, has stuck with his childhood teachings and has become a soldier, a hunter dedicated to the cause of killing demons, still scouring the country for his mother’s killer. After two years of silence, Dean calls upon Sam to aid in a search when their father goes missing for several days. What begins as a weekend search for their MIA father quickly escalates into a full-scale hunt when the boys run into a ‘Woman in White’. Following the years of training they received from their father, Sam and Dean quickly vanquish the killer spirit but unfortunately come up empty handed when it comes to their father’s whereabouts.

Returning home to California for an important interview however, Sam discovers that his girlfriend, Jessica, has been attacked and killed by what appears to be the same demon that killed his mother. Dragged reluctantly from the room by Dean as his once peaceful life goes up in flames, Sam knows what he must do.

Months and countless hours on the road later, the boys have continued scouring the country for their missing father, following his clues and finishing off anything supernatural that stands in their way, re-establishing their brotherly bond that suffered with Sam’s falling out. By the time they finally do find their father, John has found a gun – a specially designed model Colt gun with unique bullets – that could help the Winchester boys finally finish off the demon that killed Mary and Jessica. However, as the Winchester victory seems at hand, the yellow-eyed-demon and his forces are not far behind. Striking against the hunters swiftly, the yellow-eyed-demon attacks and catastrophe ensues.

Now

Arriving at the hospital following the brutal attack by the yellow-eyed-demon, the three Winchesters are in serious condition. Two are conscious, the other clinging to like. After what seems to be countless attempts by the medical staff, Dean’s condition has not improved; he is still unconscious and unbeknownst to anyone is literally face-to-face with death as his spirit wanders the hospital, fading as time ticks by. However, as Dean slowly comes to terms with his fate in the form of death, John intervenes and makes a deal with the yellow-eyed-demon to spare his oldest son’s life, sacrificing his own life and the colt in the process. With his death, John leaves his sons in a time of desperate need, but he also leaves Dean with an unspeakable burden, a task no father should ask of his son.

Dean is torn; he was supposed to die. Sam on the other hand, is eager to appease the memory of a father he never really knew. As the two remaining Winchesters come to terms with the death of a father and teacher in their own very different ways, something unnatural is brewing behind the scenes, something… supernatural.

Months later and miles away in Antigo, Wisconsin, part-time waitress and sometimes psychic, Paige Turner is working the night shift at a local Ma & Pa diner. While working through the few customers of the night, Paige is disturbed by a very persistent man who insists he needs to speak with her.

After escaping the diner, the man tells Paige that he doesn’t mean any harm and that Paige shouldn’t be afraid… the man also tells Paige that he died several months ago and all he needs now is help. The man continued to explain to a disbelieving Paige, that he was stuck in a purgatory – a stage of limbo – that granted him no release, the only way to release him, he insisted, was with the help of his two sons. Not only would Paige need to track down his sons, but she would need to inform them of a book that would release him from his purgatory and grant him life once again. The Book of Shadows; a Wiccan ‘religious’ text in which powerful spells are contained and added by the book’s owner, a book which has been lost for the better part of three centuries. At first, Paige tries her best to ignore the man, but when he begins to equivalently haunt her all hours of the day and night, Paige learns she must listen. Paige must find the man’s sons in order for him to leave her alone, in order for her to get back to a fairly normal life. Not only does the man need help though, but so do his boys. With the disappearance of the book, many others ─ including demons wishing to attain its power ─ have been searching for it. As soon as word gets out that the boys are searching for the book, demons looking to take the book for their own will impede their quest. Should the boys get in the way, their lives would ultimately hang in the balance. Other hunters, he told Paige, must be willing to assist his boys throughout the search or all ─ including the lives of the boys and those involved ─ could be lost in the process. Some hunters however, crooked with greed for power, may be looking to gain for themselves.

The man’s name… John Winchester.

If there was a way to bring John back, would you do it? Save John, Save the World.
