Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ronald Weasley pushed their luggage down the narrow halls of the Hogwarts Express, struggling to squeeze by and simultaneously search for an empty compartment. They were going to be seventh years, yet they couldn't find a place to sit! Pathetic really. They were just about the end of their search when a compartment door slid open with a bang and four sweater-clad arms grabbed the threesome, pulling them and their luggage into the compartment. "Oi!" Ron howled in pain as his suitcase landed on his toe. The three looked up, shocked to see the beaming faces of Fred and George Weasley.

"What are...?" Hermione's brown eyebrows knitted together in confusion, her jaw lack, trying to imagine a reason why the twins would be back. Ginny smirked. She was seated in the corner, her pale legs daintily crossed at the knees. "Flitwick invited them back." She nodded, as if that explained anything at all. She seemed pleased that she knew something over Hermione. Before either Ron or Harry could utter a word, George pulled a small golden thing from his pocket. He cradled it in his hands like it was a newborn bird.

"Fred and I have created a time turner." Fred smiled down at the substance.

"Because you so carelessly broke the ministries'." George continued.

"There are just a few adjustments to make -."

"And we thought you all would like to witness history in the making." Hermione stared apprehensively at George. Her mind was no doubt whirling at how many ways that this could go wrong, but for one reason or another, she kept her mouth shut, her brown eyes fixed on the home-made time turner in George's hands. The twins bent over, shutting off the view as they continued their work. Harry, Ron, and Hermione craned their necks to try and catch a glimpse, and Ginny stood up on the seat, her ridiculously shortened uniform skirt riding a bit high.

Suddenly, there was something of an explosion, and the compartment began to spin. Ginny fell from her perch, landing with a thud on top of Harry. After what seemed like a lifetime of colors swirling in front of their eyes, the compartment suddenly stopped movement. The six passengers looked at one another, then around at their surroundings. They seemed to be in the right place. "It was worth a shot." Ginny shrugged, her face aflame, as she detangled herself from Harry. She looked at Hermione. "I have to go to the loo...wanna come with?" Hermione nodded, her face a bit green from before.

"Girls...they always travel in packs." Fred snickered as the two left the compartment. The four boys started animatedly discussing Quidditch, able too without complaint in the absence of Ginny and Hermione, until the compartment door slid open again with such intensity that the glass shattered. Hermione frowned and pulled out her wand, muttering a repairing charm, then shoved an issue of The Daily Prophet into the faces of the four boys. "Look at today's date!" She cried shrilly, pointing at the date in the top right corner. It read September 1st, 1974. Harry snatched it from her hands, in disbelief. "It worked! We went back in time! And Harry – we think we saw your dad!" Ginny bounced on her toes, excitement shining in her face. Fred and George high-fived each other. "Wicked!" They cried in unison. Hermione shook her head, her eyes the picture of worried. "Don't you read Time Changing Inventions?!"" She didn't even bother waiting for the 'no's' that would follow. "Time turners weren't invented until 1981! We're stuck here!"
