It has been twenty-three years since the Storm and the demise of Lord Voldemort.
>>. an emotional farewell
‘I don’t want you to go, Harry,’ whispered Ginny.
She clutched onto his shirt as if it were her lifeline.
Tears were forming in her hazel eyes and her lower
lip was shaking. Harry’s heart broke into two at the
sight of his soul mate in such an emotional state.
He lifted a hand and brushed a lock of her flaming
red hair from her face, her cheeks warm against his
numb skin.
‘Wait for me, Ginny,’ he told her, so many unvoiced
feelings behind his words, ‘I will come back for you,
I promise. We will be together again.’ He pulled her
to him and embraced her, his arms tight around her
back, wishing he wouldn’t have to let go. But he did.
He listened to her sobs as he walked away from her,
his aching heart beating out of his chest. He reached
the door and turned to her once more.
‘I will wait for you.’ Ginny said softly, a single tear
sidling down her cheek. He lifted his hand, gave her
a single wave, and left with the knowledge that he
might never see her again.

The Storm began its journey at midnight on Christmas Eve, 1997. Wizarding folk and Muggles alike had sensed something was not right months previous – there was a noticeable dull tinge in the air, mist had gathered everywhere, and the atmosphere was that of a miserable one. Muggles seemed content with believing winter was coming early, but the Wizarding world knew the heightened sense of depression was a sign of approaching danger.
For years, the Ministry of Magic had been denying any such peril by the hand of the Dark Lord, but it became clear they could no longer keep Lord Voldemort’s return in the dark. Rufus Scrimgeour declared a state of emergency on the 1st of August, encouraging everyone to travel in packs and avoid wandering out on their own, keep their homes boarded up with protection and Illusionment charms, and to create passwords among their families in order to be aware of whether their loved ones were under the Imperius curse.
On the 1st of September, despite the ever-approaching danger, students were encouraged to return to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where it was assured they would be safe. The children bid their families farewell in silence and mourning, knowing that it could well be the last time they would be together. It was a sad day, but eventually the Hogwarts Express, cloaked with many complex protection spells, set off through the London countryside, destined for Hogwarts.
The year started off with a slow and depressing atmosphere. Nobody seemed to have the energy to make conversation, what with the weight of the danger they knew they were under, despite the enclosed walls of the castle. Schoolwork hardly seemed appropriate – not even the learning of newer, more complex defensive spells could help them relax. The students were slowly drifting apart, estranged when they should have been bonding to become stronger.
The Storm had now settled over the world. ‘Accidents’ were miraculously taking place everywhere. The San Francisco bridge collapsed the day before Halloween, taking the lives of a thousand Muggles and Wizarding folk, and injuring another few hundred. Several days after, the Eiffel tower collapsed, crushing an entire civilization. On the same day, the Thames river overflowed and flooded most of London, drowning and crushing another thousand or so people. Once again, Muggles believed it was the work of nature, but the magical population knew better and were becoming more and more frightened as the days passed and more tragedies occurred.
It wasn’t until Christmas Eve that the Storm came to a climax. There were endless thunder storms, earthquakes and tsunamis. The Ministry could no longer ignore that this was the work of Lord Voldemort and his loyal followers.
The Golden Trio had been awaiting this moment ever since they first found out about the Philosopher’s Stone in their first year. Harry Potter, the Chosen One, knew he had to go to war, right at that moment. Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger were at his side, as they had always been. The Trio and Order joined leagues with the untrustworthy and equipped Ministry, and together they went in search of Voldemort, whom they had been informed was in a small Muggle village just off the border of London.

The war began at midnight on Christmas Eve, and raged on in a mess of blood, sweat and torture for a full twenty-four hours. All of Hogwarts remained in anticipation, fearing for the lives of their families and themselves. But it was likely the Wizarding civilization outside of the ‘safe places’ all over the world would not survive. The students were certain they would never see their loved ones again, and took refuge in the Great Hall of Hogwarts for grieving a praying.
It wasn’t until twelve o’clock on the morning of Christmas Day that the trio stumbled into the Great Hall, muddy, bloody and exhausted, with the news of the defeat of Lord Voldemort. The students were in a state of euphoria, which was short-lived when they heard the news that most of their families had not survived the worst of the Storm.
The world was in a state of devastation, unsure of whether to celebrate over the demise of the darkest Wizard of time, or grieve over all the loss. Eventually, after the Graduation of the Trio and their fellow seventh year students, things started to pick back up again. Most people, over the initial shock, began to rebuild their lives, taking whatever precious few possessions they had left and starting over. The Storm was finally over and the world had been restored to its original state of borrowed happiness.
It is now the year 2019. The children of the Trio, and other next generation children, are attending Hogwarts, in which Professor McGonagall has been appointed as the new Headmistress, and Remus Lupin taking over her original Deputy position. The sense of loss has healed over time, and all is well. But someone has been dabbling in the Dark Arts, and there have been several threats of the rise of a new Dark Lord. Fear is encasing the Wizarding world once again. They wonder whether it will be as bad as last time.
Former Death Eaters are reuniting after years of remaining in hiding, awaiting the day a new Lord will rise to power. The old depression is stifling the atmosphere once again, and the Wizarding world fears for its life. Join the next generation as they experience friendship, hatred, love and fear, and the importance of being together, on top of the trepidation of the danger that approaches them, threatening to ruin the world for all of eternity.
