OMEGA
In a small town settled in the heart of Oregon, a rescue and research facility has formed. Four years prior, in 2004 the small town was slowly dwindling in numbers and the cost to keep it running was driving the government into the ground. This was the chance of a lifetime for the local wolf and canine biologists who had been waiting for an opportunity to arise. With donations from many companies such as Pets Mart, Purina Pet Chow, and Iams the small facility was able to buy the land and start up a small park.
You see the ideas of having a place where the biologists could study the anatomy of not only wolves but also canines were a huge step. Could a normal housedog, if put in the position, turn back to their ancestors and survive in the wild? The thought of being able to save hundreds and hopefully thousands of pets each year was enough to make any animal lover’s head spin. If it was possible to have canines live like this, in the wild like wolves did, then hundreds of unwanted pets that were either to be put down because of not being wanted, or too vicious to be handled by humans, could still live their life.
At first they debated on whether to leave the town up or tare it down, but in the end the majority of the biologists ruled it would stay up. Then the debate was how many dogs to bring into the park, would they start out small and then work their way into more canines each month? Thirty canines were released that summer, dogs from the pounds, puppy mills, pet stores, and even some housedogs that their owners didn’t want anymore.
Among this first batch was a one-year-old dog rescued from a puppy mill, which had been a rather shy and timid dog, sticking by himself and submitting in the beginning to other canines. A name that had suited him at the time was OMEGA, and so the name stuck though his reputation soon changed after being there for two weeks. His aggressive and more dominant side started to show through when he started hanging around his lady friend a bit more often. Tea was rescued from the same puppy mill, and as time went by the two (as observed by the biologists) became mates and started gathering at the orchards, where the first pack was thus created.
Four years later and the rescue and research facility are stronger then ever. It rightfully was given the name OMEGA after the first alpha of the lands and even though he has thus since been killed along with his mate, his spirit remains. So will you come and join us here at OMEGA, where history is in the making and you could very well become the next legend around?
