Title: Severe condition
Description: High pressure mask leak

Mike N - October 14, 2007 03:29 PM (GMT)
I was diagnosed 5 years ago with extremely severe OSA (average 350-400 apneas/ 8 hours sleep). I also am being treated for hypersomnia, RLS and parasomnia. I use a Bipap, no ramp with a setting of 22 over 20. The mask I have been using all along has been the Resmed Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask. After receiving my latest mask I realized that it has been redesigned and no longer works with out leaking. I might add that I have to strap it on very tight because the high pressure wants to blow it off my face. I was just fitted with the Resperonics Comfort Series full face and it is horrible at best. Anyone with high pressures like mine have any ideas as I cannot sleep without it. Thanks

Welcome to Apnea Board, Mike.

I'm not sure that there are any FF masks that will seal effectively at those pressures.

For what it's worth, I switched from a FF mask to a nasal mask and my chronic mask leaks pretty much evaporated.

The mask I use is the ResMed Activa...and it is the best thing to happen to my sleep since the autopap. You don't even need tight straps! No more marks on my face from the headgear.

I understand that ResMed now has a full face version of the Activa, with the same dual wall cushion technology. My guess is that it should offer improved performance in terms of mask leaks.

Here is the manufacturer's website: http://www.resmed.com/en-us/products/masks...l?menu=products

Good luck! Carl

Regarding masks-Like a previous poster I am now using the Res-Med Activa mask with 14/10 pressure BiPap and I find that it is by far the most satisfactory mask I have ever had. Ihave had CPap and BiPap for about twenty years and have gone through a bunch of different masks during that time. Great Mask!!
