Title: CPAP with chest congestion

Hi, I'm pretty new here, not sure that I've posted at all, been reading some here and there. I have a quick question though. I've got some major chest congestion, horrible cough, had it for a few days now, and now it sounds like a "whooping" cough. Should I still be using my mask? I've seen similar questions, but don't remember anything definite stated. Of course I wonder about everything.....did I not clean my stuff often enough, did I leave the water in there too long that morning before I dumped it out, did I get something? What do you think??

Is is possible that you have the heat turned up too high on your humidifier? I would continue using the CPAP, but turn the humidifier down quite a bit or not put water in it at all, maybe for a few days, until your cough ends.

If the cough continues, or gets worse, you need to see your doctor, however.

Well, I'm hoping to avoid the doctor as I don't have any insurance right now and am without a job.

You really think it could be because of the humidifier being up too high? What about that would cause all this congestion in my chest? If I don't turn it up, I don't get any effects of it whatsoever and my mouth is SO dry when I wake up that it's horrible. It's dry anyway, but just not as bad. I don't know. I had just heard people say (probably not true however) that the air would just continue to push the stuff, congestion and all, down into your lungs or whatever and that wasn't a good thing, that's why I was wondering.

Thanks for the reply!
