My husband had the sleep apnea surgery 3 years ago and his sleep apnea was not so bad for a while, but came back with a vengance. They removed his uvula and 'fixed' his deviated septum -did not work~ All pain and no gain...
3 years later, he is on the auto-titrate machine at the higest level that it can go. So much for the success of the surgery! Just be sure to go in with eyes wide open knowing that the surgery may not work and you may need the machine after all.
I couldn't have said it better myself.

I had the UPPP and Septoiplasty done 15 years ago since choices of CPAP's then were dreadful. It seemed to work ok until father time and the aging process caught up. It probably depends on the person and their anatomy if the surgery helps at all. I am pleased I had it done or I would really have a difficult time with my nose right now. At least I don't have to fight a narrow septum and extra uvular flesh when I breathe. The apnea came back and now I am on a Bilevel CPAP. They have come a long way in develping better machines and masks. Anyway, it is a personal decision that each individual can make whether or not to do the surgery. However, it is painful and if the CPAP works great I would not recommend the surgery.
