Title: new to the board

texasranger - July 18, 2007 04:55 PM (GMT)
hello all, i am new here. i have learned a lot of stuff from reading everyones posts. my wife has been trying to get me tested for a long time. my doctor put me on provigil to help me stay awake during the day, it doesnt really help much.

anyway, i had the sleep test last friday. i don't have the results yet, but the tech said it was the worst he had seen (thats scarry). he said my oxygen level ( or something) went down to 48% . and he kept waking me up by yelling my name over the speaker. finally about 3am he said i could go on home and get some sleep. he had seen all he needed to see.

they said i have severe apnea and need to go back for the second test. they are booked right now. but said i am first on the list if someone cancells or they may move someones appt friday so i can have it.

i am looking forward to trying the cpap. i cant wait to get a good nights sleep. i hope it works good for me......

i will let you know.

Hey Texas and welcome to the forums.

Glad to hear that you're getting the problem taken care of so quickly.

As alot of people around here have said in the past, don't expect miracles overnight. Its going to take time to get used to the machine and the mask, but it gets better.

Hang in there.

thanks dave, well its friday and i didnt get my second appt. the doctor called today and said there should be a cancellation next week. he did have my results back and said i am having 90+ episodes an hour.

does that mean you wake up that many times? or are you just moving and jerking around or what. i guess when your oxygen gets real low you wake up. i cant believe i wake up that many times an hour.

thanks

Texas,

No it doesn't mean that you are waking up that often, only that you are experiencing that many breathing interuptions in an hour. 90 episodes an hour is quite a bit. Get in for your second study as soon as you can.

i did the second study last night. it went really well. we had to change to a full mask that covered nose and mouth. that seemed to work well. the tech said i slept good. i felt like i slept good. i have been so tired lately that it didnt take me long to get used to it. i cant wait to get my own cpap

i have an appt at 5pm tomorrow to see the doctor and get a prescription. so hopefully i will have it wednesday evening. i will ley you know........

Ask for a A-FLEX machine so you don't have to switch machines. Also make sure it is turned on to A-FLEX mode. My Tech apparently didn't know how to enable it. The supplier didn't normally carry it.
