My name is Becca and I am from Idaho. I just recently joined this forum.
I go in this week for my triation study then into the respiratory therapist next week to pick out my CPAP. Is there anything I should be aware of in regards to the machine?
Also has anyone experinced any weight changes since using the CPAP?
Any information you can provide would be helpful.
Hi Becca,
I am pretty new to all this also, but I have been using my auto cpap machine for almost two months now. It takes a while to get used to it, but I am finally getting to where I can sleep for 4 to 6 hours at a time with the machine. I asked my physician to try to write my script for an auto machine because I was told that every 20 or so pounds change means you should have another test done. I have odd hours and did not sleep well during my study ( only got about an hour of info) and did not want to struggle through this over and over again not to mention wondering about insurance paying for multiple ones etc. The insurance did approve it and I have been working at weight loss since. I am losing weight slowly, but I am on a calorie restricted diet as well. But I had a terrible time before this losing weight and at least it is coming off now, slowly but surely. My physician was the one that started the whole investigation into sleep apnea for me because I mentioned trying to lose weight and how its always been hard. She said that is a part of sleep apnea, sometimes we develope higher cortisol levels?
Just don't get discouraged if you can not get used to a cpap right off the first night, it took me a while. Good luck!
