Title: Post Surgery Exhaustion/Insomnia

Mel - July 6, 2007 04:01 PM (GMT)
Hi,

I just had septum and UPPP surgery on Tuesday, the 3rd. Prior to this I was using a CPAP (just the nose mask) for about six months. I'd become pretty dependant on it. I was diagnosed as 'moderate' apnea w/ 'mild' obstruction and no oxygen loss or central apnea.

Since my surgery on Tuesday, I've experienced only moderate pain, which is good as the pain killers (oxycodone especially) really make me feel awful.

Anyhow, I've been taking very small amounts of Valium for anxiety and a little melatonin and am still only sleeping maybe 3 hrs night w/ great difficulty.

Could really use some support right now. Has anybody suffered from post-op insomnia/anxiety/exhaustion?

Wow, what was I thinking doing this surgery?

I am now trying to sleep w/ a full face mask attached to my CPAP but still jerking awake every 30 minutes or so.

Thanks.

Hi there,

I'd think that your pressure may no longer be appropriate? Maybe you need another sleep study before using your CPAP machine again?

Just a thought...

I had the same surgery in 1991 but was not on CPAP. It took me about a month to recover from the surgery so hang in there. The anesthesia alone will take a few weeks to get out of your system. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
