Hi there--
I've been diagnosed with apnea and will undergo the titration sleep study within a few weeks. Mr dr is not entirely convinced that cpap will work with me but recommends that we try it. I have HUGE tonsils, a "droopy" uvula, an enlarged area at the back of my throat due to GERD, and a deviated septum. How long do I try cpap before we decide that it does or does not work? If it doesn't work, then I need to get scheduled for surgery to fix all those nasties listed above.
Also, he stated that the biggest issue with the success of cpap is the user -- how many of you have used cpap for over a year?
And for those of you who may have had similar surgeries -- did it work for you? My dr is very honest and upfront about the surgery. He will not perform it unless he thinks it has a very high likelihood of success, and he feels that it is a surgery that is done too often and on a large percentage of people who did not (and should not) need it.
Thanks for listening -- from a newbie!! :)
When you say your doctor, do you mean your GP or your sleep doctor? You mention that you have a deviated septum. I had one repaired and I have found that since the operation, CPAP is working more effectively for me.
