Title: Does using CPAP worsen obstructive apnea?

Here's another question for you - does using CPAP further weaken the throat muscles, since you no longer have to fight for breath, and in effect worsen the obstructive nature of apnea?

I've done yoga off and on for years. Lying flat on my back with my head on the floor has never posed a breathing problem before. In the last few weeks I've noticed that now when I lay on my back, I can feel my throat close shut. The only way I can breath is if I crane my neck up and to the left. This is new since starting CPAP in February. Has using CPAP so weakened the musculature that now I CAN'T breath without it?? Rather a scary thought.

Hmm... to be a truely scientific conclusion, all other things must have remained the same, in order to draw a logical conclusion that CPAP has weakened your throat muscles.

I would ask myself "what has changed"... is your pressure setting the same, is the mask the same, same CPAP machine, still using/not using a humidifier, have you gained/lost weight, change in diet, change in stress, etc., etc.

If there are no other major changes, then it could be that the CPAP is the cause.
