Hi everyone, Im new here! Im surprised how much great information is here, I was recently diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, I have the S8 AutoSet Vantage machine.
I just got my mask changed to the Mirage swift II Nasal pillow system, I had a bigger one before that covered my nose completely.
Im noticing with this new mask, that water gets stuck in the hose in the middle of the night, and when I breathe in, it sounds like im beating a drum or something because there is just so much water stuck in the hose!
Has anyone ever experienced this before??
Thank you for the help!!
Welcome to Apnea Board, Mia.
You're experiencing a phenomenon commonly known as "rainout", generally associated with the use of a heated humidifier in cool, dry environments.
As the moist, warm air moves away from your CPAP machine, it is cooled rapidly by the relatively low ambient temperature of your room. This cooler air cannot hold as much moisture, so condensation forms in the hose.
There are several ways to address rainout. You can cover your hose with some sort of insulating material to minimze heat loss. There are ready-made "hose blankets" available for this purpose, although some folks simply run the hose under the covers. You can even purchase a heated hose, which is probably the most elegant solution, although a bit costly.
The simplest fix is to try a lower setting on your humidifier and see if that resolves the problem.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
Carl

I know my room has been very cold lately. Canadian weather!! LOL
I will definately try that and let you know what happens!! I think im going to try putting the hose under the covers.
