Hi,
I'm sure there are many threads in this forum about the following hot topic, but if one of you sleep deprivation experts can field these questions or give me a quick link to the answers, it is much appreciated. I'm too tired to dig deeper (it's the apnea).
1. I just got a new CPAP machine and the sleep study I took said it should be set at 16.0 cmH20 (my previous CPAP was much lower and wasn't giving me a restful sleep). The new setting didn't work and I'm tired more now than before, so I dropped it to 12 and still no better sleep. Should I keep trying each number or is there a way to tell how much pressure is too much or not enough (like should you be unable to open your mouth when the pressure is on, etc.)?
2. They told me how to manually change my CPAP settings and I did it once, but can't seem to recreate the process. It's a REMstar Plus M series.
Thanks for any assistance since I could really use a good night's sleep and my doctor is pretty worthless.

Welcome to Apnea Board, WD.
I don't recommend self-titration, as least, not using the method you've described. I'd suggest a consult with a board-certified sleep specialist. The sleep lab may also be able to help you.
Another option would be switch to an auto-titrating machine such as the RemStar Auto. Most DME providers keep a few autopaps on hand specifically for this reason. They may be willing to loan you one for a few weeks to learn what your correct pressure should be.
Good luck with your therapy!
