Hi everyone. I'm counting the days until I get my CPAP (on the 8th). It's discouraging that it takes so long - I started the process in December by scheduling my sleep study, and found out in mid-February that my AHI was 46, with events lasting almost 1 minute, and O2 levels down to 70%. A couple more weeks to schedule a titration study, then a couple more weeks to get my machine.
It's taken me a long time to get to this point since I first suspected that I had OSA. My doctor didn't think I had it because I wasn't "sleepy" enough. It wasn't until I told him that my husband nudges me when I stop breathing that he immediately wrote the script for the sleep study. At 47, I guess I should know by now that if I suspect a problem, it's my job to make the doctor listen.
The day after my titration study, I felt better than I have in a long time. It's been really hard to wait since then. Like getting a taste of something great and then having it taken away again. I don't know what type of machine or mask I'll be getting, but that day I cleaned my bedroom to make room for it.
I have read about the CPAP adjustment problems some members experience, and I'm grateful for everyone's stories. If I have problems, at least I won't just think it's my own bad luck. I can't wait to sleep without snoring! My poor husband - he's an angel.
This is getting long-winded. Thanks for listening!
Tangents, welcome to Apnea Board!
I think with your positive attitude and the fact that you're actually looking forward to getting your CPAP machine, you will do fine with it.
I had a similar attitude when I was waiting for my CPAP, and when I got it, for me, it was an immediate improvement (this is not the case for everyone, however).
I'm excited for you!! :D Soon, you'll be a full-fledged member of the Society of "Hose-heads". ;)
I guess I was lucky.
My sleep study was on March 1. Today I received a call from Apria Healthcare setting an appointment to get my machine tomorrow.
I'll be very happy to get it. From what I hear, I am about to experience a wonderful night of sleep.
