Title: Post Sleep Study Question

I'll ask this here because someone may know.

I just had a sleep study and in the middle, they came in and woke me and put me on a CPAP.

I did not ask how many "events" I had, but, they told me at the beginning that they would only use the CPAP if I had a certain number of "events".

My study was March 1, so, it has not been long enough for a doctor to review things yet, but, from what happened at the study, I would think they are probably going to recommend a permenant CPAP.

Now to the question. Does anyone know how many "events" have to occur before they decide to put someone on a CPAP?

Thanks!

Welcome to Apnea Board, Glen.

Generally speaking, anything greater than 5 episodes per hour will qualify you for a diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea.

Don't hesitate to phone your doctor's office first thing Monday morning to ask about your test results. If your CPAP trial was effective, you'll want to start therapy as soon as possible.

Good luck!

After my first sleep study, the doctor said I had 11.5 events per hour, but that I needed to get to 15 an hour for insurance to cover the machine. So I had to go back and do another sleep study, this time on my back. On my back, I had 81 events per hour.

Obviously, each insurance provider might have a different minimum number of events.
