Title: Sleep Apnea and Dental Surgery
Description: Sleep Apnea and Dental Surgery

I currently use a Resmed VPAP 3 with heated humidification and Ultra Mirage full face mask titrated 19/14 with 2 liters of oxygen to sleep by. My question is I am scheduled for dental surgery to remove eleven teeth under anesthetic to put me to sleep while they are removed at the dentists office. So I assume some swelling of the mouth afterwards that could possibly make my apnea worse. So to continue to use my equipment right after surgery would more than likely be needed, but could also cause air to be forced into my tooth sockets and push any drainage from the bleeding down my throat which could possibly cause me to choke in my sleep which could be a bad thing. Anyone here been through anything similar or have any thoughts or suggestions about this?

Welcome to Apnea Board, Iron City.

That's an excellent question. I suggest that you ask your dentist or oral surgeon to phone your sleep doctor so that they can determine the best way to handle your PAP therapy during your recovery period.

Good luck! Carl
