Title: 2nd sleep test
Description: some questions

sweetmom67 - January 24, 2007 07:35 PM (GMT)
hi guys, I just had my 2nd sleep test with my cpap machine, I thought I was doing great but it turns out they had to increase the pressure not sure why cus I haven't seen the sleep doc yet for full results, but my problem is now I find the pressure too much and I'm sleeping lousy. Is this normal?
2. I find Im getting a lot of chest colds and having a hard time sleeping with the mask on, is this normal too? Does the humidity have something to do with it?
3. Do pillows make a difference? I hear they do, But what kind is the best?
You guys are the best....it really helps to have people to talk to that go through the same thing you are, cus I have a lot of friends to talk to but they don't understand about this stuff and I feel it's one of those things you have experience before advising anyways. Thanks again.

Hi Tammy - sorry I haven't had much time to respond sooner. Been really busy with work.

Anyway, if they increased your pressure, I'd give it a try for at least a week (you probably already have by now), but if you're not getting good sleep as a result of the pressure increase, you need to tell your sleep doctor that - there may have been an error during your sleep test, who knows?

Chest colds don't come from too much humidity or from CPAP usage; they come from a cold virus. If you're talking about simple chest congestion, that might be due to too high a humidity setting on your CPAP humidifier, which could make breathing difficult, especially at higher pressures. If you already have a cold that's been lingering for a long time, it could make you much more sensitive to increased pressure, of course. So, your feeling lousy may be due to too much humidity or a cold, rather than the increased pressure... but if you lower the humidity and your cold goes away, and you still feel lousy, it may be time to have your doctor re-examine the decision to increase the pressure.

On the nasal pillows, I use them and I love them. I started off with a standard nasal mask (Ultra Mirage), used it for about 6 months or so with pretty good success, but it seemed uncomfortable at times., but when the new Resmed Mirage Swift came out, I took the plunge and tried it. I love it now - you can read my review of the Mirage Swift by clicking here: Supersleeper's Review of the Resmed Swift Mask

Hope this helps!
