Title: Just snoring ?
cowboy - September 13, 2006 04:05 PM (GMT)
I had a study a few years ago and didn't have apnea then.
Anyhow , I figure with all the expertise here someone would be able to help.
Just wondering what is out there that is simple effective and cheap, to stop snoring.
I have looked around and as you all know, there are lots of devices (sprays, straps, sticky straps, mouth pieces ..... etc) and of course the advertisers all claim they work.
Trial and error aren't an option as even the 'cheap' ones are $50 +.
So what are some tried and true methods to stop snoring.
Once again, I don't have apnea, so thats not a concern.

Cowboy, I don't know if this is helpful or not, but I think if a friend or relative asked for my help to resolve chronic snoring, I'd probably tell them to take a good look at Somnoplasty and the Pillar procedure, in that order.
I've heard folks claim they've had success with Breathe-Right strips, which are cheap enough to try, at $10-$20 for a box. All of the other products, not so much.
If you have health insurance, an eval by an ENT who's board-certified as a sleep specialist (I know, you don't have OSA, but these guys know all about snoring, too) is always a good idea. You might have something as simple as a prolapsed nasal valve that's restricting your breathing.
Good luck! Carl

I'm not sure what the proceedure was called, but I had the operation to remove tissue
from the back of my mouth..... didn't help at all.
The strips don't seem to help either.

Sounds like you might have had uvulopalatopharnygoplasty, or UVPPP for short.
Breathe-Right strips didn't do anything for me, either. The ENT consult is probably the way I would go. In fact, I plan on going again myself, with an eye towards either somnoplasty or LAUP. I'd like to improve my breathing so that I might be able to get by with a lower CPAP pressure.

Sorry,
I thought I had mentioned that I did have the uvpp done,
i.e., laser or radio frequency method of surgery to remove
tissue from the back of my throat.
It had zero effect, didn't even help a little.
