Hello,
I was diagnosed with OSA some time ago and I would like to know if there are any cures for it (excluding surgery) or whether it is something that I will have for the rest of my life. My doctor wasn't very encouraging but I would certainly like a second opinion. I thought that maybe the CPAP device would "teach" my system to breathe right, but he didn't seem to think so.
Thank you all,
Rozy
Welcome to Apnea Board, Rozy.
I've never heard of anyone who claimed to have been "cured" of their OSA.
There does seem to be ample evidence to suggest that in obese patients, weight loss can result in fewer apnea episodes. If you're on CPAP, you might find that weight loss translates to lower pressure requirements. But even folks I know who've lost 100 pounds or more haven't managed to shake their OSA completely.
OTOH, if you manage to find a cure for OSA, it's a pretty safe bet that you'll be wealthy beyond your wildest dreams!
