Title: New guy with a few ?
Description: sleep attacks.

I have scheduled a sleep test for myself after last nights little episode I had. Has anyone ever woke up with a sweat, pounding chest, trying to catch your breath and also feeling like you have to vomit? I had my third episode of this in 2 years. Pretty scary feeling. Took me a good 20 min to calm down and get myself together and get back into bed. My question for you, is this something any of you experienced? If not any thoughts on what else it might be? Thanks in advance everyone

Hardknock, welcome to Apnea Board!

Except for the nausea, sounds just like my own early experiences with obstructive sleep apnea.

The sleep study will confirm or rule out a diagnosis of OSA pretty effectively.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about what a typical sleep study is like, let us know.

Good luck! Carl

Thanks Carl. I also have acid refluxe disease and I am thinking that is where the nausea came into part. I have had a heart burn all day and a upset stomach. Then again I am not a doctor and that is why I scheduled the sleep study. Any tips on having a succesful sleep study? Do I get to wear my own cumfy clothes or do i have to wear one of those terrible gouns? Do they actually sit there and watch you sleep? If so I am going to have some troubles trying to sleep.

This was the first episode I had where I felt like gonna throw up

The best advice I can give you is to avoid caffeine and naps the day of your study. You want to be as tired and sleepy as possible.

In my experience, you're allowed to wear your own clothes the night of the study. Most labs try to make you as comfortable as possible.

They don't exactly sit and watch you sleep, they usually have low-light cameras and electronic monitoring devices.

Good luck! Carl
