After 8 years of torturing my wife with my snoring i finally went and got a sleep test done at vanderbilt medical unviersity which was awesome because they do thier studies over at the vanderbilt mariott so it feels like you are not in a hospital. well the study came back with sleep apnea. i have been on cpap now for 2 months and love it.. it took me 1 month to get used to it. i used to take the mask off in the middle of the night and not notice but now its all good. I guess after all those years of not sleeping well and waking up like ive never slept it was great that i was diagnosed ...

Welcome to Apnea Board, Chef.
I hope that sleep studies at the Marriott are on their way to becoming the new standard. Sure beats the places I've had studies!
It's great to hear that CPAP works so well for you. I'm especially glad that you were able to tell us a little bit about your adjustment period. That's a real challenge for most of us, and it helps to hear that there was light at the end of the tunnel for you!

Wow!! A sleep study in a nice place. Great idea, hope it catches on.
My studies were done in a place that reminded me of Boot Camp; doors opening and closing, people walking around with squeaky shoes, dimly lit/ flashing lights, poor mattress.
Chef: you must have been lucky enough to get a tolerable interface/mask.
Good luck!!!

Hi All,
I'm new here and just wanted to toss out a comment about sleep studies.
Sleep studies should have amenities that actually make you want to sleep!
A comfortable mattress would be a start... The one at my sleep study was
like sleeping in the bed of a pickup truck..
Maybe one of those Select Comfort mattresses where people could adjust them.
Also... Pillows... Flat foam crappy.... I should have brought ones from home..
I just had my first study this past tuesday... A split study.. They put the mask
on me and I sleept like I was in a coma..... It's been 20 years since I've slept
like that...
I'm waiting on the results now.... Everyone seems to take their time about
getting back to you.
And sleep deprivation is one of the few legal forms of torture left...
Regards,
Chris

When I had my sleep study, I was so darn tired all the time I could fall asleep anytime, anywhere, so no problem there! Heck, they could have put me on a cement slab in Grand Central Station and I would have been asleep in less than two minutes. I also feel very fortunate, especially after reading the posts here, that I had no real problems adjusting to the cpap. It took only a couple weeks to get used to it, and I can't imagine sleeping without it now!

My first sleep study was in an old (very old!) abandoned nurses residence. We walked there through a tunnel from the hospital itself.
When they put my mask on (using crazy glue, I swear!) I watched the little critters walking around. About 8 of us were tested that night including a provincial police officer.
I woke up at 5:30. I was out by 6:00, dazzled by the light. Ihad glue all over my scalp and couldn't leave there fast enough.
Met a nurse approaching the hospital for her shift. From her look I suspect she thought I had escaped and should be committed again!
Took a while to wash that glue out of my hair.
Took 1 1/2 years to talk my GP into a sleep study. Took 6 months waiting to get it. Took 6 weeks to get the results. Cpap for me!
