august eleventh;; nineteen eighty-seven.
manners had never much liked fulton, even
less so when the kid decided to join the eagles'
football team. rivalry was obvious. and when
they both went to camp batimore in their late
teens, it only seemed fair that manners’ team,
based in camp cook, would kick fulton and camp
sycamore’s ass. however, it appeared that things
weren’t quite what they seemed.
no one would have come to expect that manners’
girlfriend would fooling around with anyone else -
until she was found with his archrival. things
came to a head in the last football match of the
summer; a tackle between the two enemies
turned nasty, and just as the whistle was blown
to call for a halt in the action, there was a sharp
snap - one of the boys throwing a punch at the
other, it has been surmised - and manners was
splayed on the pitch with dead grey eyes. there
was a scream from the stands as the game
turned into chaos. the only sound that could be
heard above the noise of panic was a siren in
the distance.
the next morning, reports came in that the girlfriend
had been found dead: drowned in the lake, whether
by her own choice, or someone else’s hand, it would
never be certain.
the sun went down on what would become the single
bloodiest day in summer camp history. for six years,
the four camps that made up camp baltimore were
closed, allowing for things to over-grown and decay
with lack of use, and for memories of the incident to
spoil with little reflection. however, in the nineties,
businessman alfred manners, brother to the murdered
football player, reopened the camp, as a tribute to
the man who had lost his life there.
june twelfth;; two-thousand seven.
twenty years after the horrific accidents, the
teenagers of the local high schools have come to
realize that there isn't much better to do during
summer than attend one of the prestigious summer
camps that make up the baltimore region: camp
ember, camp bright lake, camp sycamore and camp
cook all specialize in sports, and have been rivals of
one another since the eighties. kids have been
flocking to the camps either to compete in the
heavily competitive sports, or just because their
parents have decided it would be a great place for
their child to make new friends.
of course, the sinister happenings during the 2006
summer have been kept under wraps to all but
those who were there at the time. mysteriously,
part of camp sycamore’s base was burned down by
an ‘accidentally’ started blaze, costing two young
teens their lives. whilst it has been speculated that
the arsonists were from camp cook, nothing can
be proved; still, rivalry is thick in the air, the same
as it was two decades ago. one question has been
left on camp baltimore's mind: does history really
repeat itself?.welcome to summer camp.
