Dogsong is based off the sun and the moon. When the sun rises - "Sunners" (Sun dogs) go through unique magical transformations. Each dog's transformation is different, no other Sunner on earth has it. It is up to you what your dog does. They may grow angel wings or butterfly wings; they may gain the ability to read minds or have super strength. They may gain incredible kindness and a need to help others, they may gain a different colored pelt; such as hot pink or ocean blue. Or they may turn into an angel, and go live in the clouds until the moon comes out. It is all up to you.

However, when the moon appears, the Sun dogs return to normal, mortal dogs. The dogs that did not gain things in the daytime now begin to change. But, their changes are different. They are dark, perhaps evil; not light, happy and caring like the other dogs. Even the dogs that are nicest in the morning can turn into vicious monsters in the night...of course, not of their own will. They are a Mooner; a Moon dog, and that's how it is. Some Mooners may turn into blood-feeding vampires and turn cannibalistic, others may grow bat wings or dragon wings, some may even transform into a real dragon. Some may gain the ability to burst into combustion, others may gain the ability to pickpocket through other's thoughts or some might even turn into monsters, losing their sanity completely. Once again, it is all up to you.

And like the Sun dogs, when the moon tucks way, the Mooners return to normal, too, and the Sunners begin their transformations over again.
