Falling Apart
It seems like forever ago I was sitting by the large window facing the gardens, my history teacher droning on about far away battles in even farther lands. Antonin, my older brother, kept making faces at my sister, Cerise. All of us were bored, except my other sister, Juliane. She was getting fitted for her wedding dress while mother was lecturing her on proper behavior of a wife.
None of that matters now. Three weeks ago radicals stormed the palace. Som say it was becasue of the marriage that was supposed to take place and others believe they simply wanted our power for themselves. All I know is it was early morning but father was already up and meeting with his Champions. Guards took us to one of the inner rooms behind on of the many secret doors. It was horribly hot but they made us wait for ours, Antonin and myself. After many hours Antonin dismissed the few men we had with us, told them to save themselves. He then led me to one of the old tunnels that wound through the palace. I never saw my mother or Juliane and Cerise had been taken by one of the maids. Whenever I go out I look for them thoguh I doubt we will see them anytime soon.
The radical leaders now live and work from our palace. They have made known whoever turns in any of our family will be greatly rewarded. I think it is their greatest task at this point, besides trying to keep others from overtaking the government they have created.
Now it is Antonin and I on our own. And though there are many out there who wish to kill us there are those who wish to help. Old guards and knights still loyal to the old family, to us, to the Greers. There is my uncle Marke, though his kingdom is many miles away. I feel we shall make it although it will be hard. No one must discover who we are until we can reclaim the throne.
