Title: He-Man 2002 line

Back in 2002 when 80s toys were coming back,He-Man came back but only for a berry short while.He-Man even had a new cartoon too that used to be played on Toonami which was a Anime block on Cartoon Network.
I noticed when I walked into KB Toys that the He-Man toys are discounted and they stopped the line.Is it because He-Man didn't catch up like Care Bears or Strawberry Shortcake?.

Ugh! Mike can talk about this topic. He was collecting the line and they did stop with production. We also watched the cartoon and loved it but towards the end of the series they started getting heavy into those snakemen guys so I don't know what they were going for there. I think it kinda got weird there.
But anyway, I'll have to tell Mike about this thread. He'll have more to say... :)

I can't comment from a collector's point of view, but as a parent I suppose I'm qualified. Last year we got Kindred (our then 7 year old) about 8 figures, Battlecat, a couple of vehicles, and the Castle Greyskull for Christmas. He set it up a couple of times, but then never touched it again. I think if children played outside more or played things like this with their friends it would have stuck around...but by himself in his room, He-Man was not a hit. I can't bear to part with any of it, but it is boxed up and in the garage. Kindred also wasn't into GI Joe at all either.

Sounds like he just isn't into action figures, that does'nt mean 02 He-man was'nt good though. I think one of the coolest things about the 80's Heman is you had She-ra to, so the fandom was for both boys and girls :)

Wow... I haven't even thought about the line for a while. I've recently packed up my figures because I couldn't bare seeing them. Many, many, many collectors were very "angry" with Mattel for dropping the line. Mainly, the line had a strong start, but couldn't compete with the electronics and current toy lines. The cartoon and comic book line were dropped once it was clear Mattel had zero faith in the line anymore. I think that He-man didn't pick up steam because many older males didn't have access to the figures they wanted (very poor packing ratios and shipments went to very weird places), while the boys didn't get into because they were onto something else like Playstation, or something like that. Maybe women and girls have a much more developped sense of imagination to play with dolls, etc... (Of course, this is only one male's perspective.) Recently, the last year or so, a new line of figure-like statues have made their way onto the collector's market. A wicked Hordak was created. It is soooo freakin nice. As for the 2002 line, I'm still looking for Evil-Lynn at a modest price. I'd also like to get my hands on a remolded, convention exclusive She-Ra down the road as well.
I know, I'm still pretty "peeved" that Mattel didn't really give the line a solid chance, but I still think fondly of the line and animated series.
On a side note, I was very surprised to see the He-Man/She-Ra Christmas special re-released on DVD for the holiday season. It is a must have for fans.
Hope that helps :)

I liked the '02 He-Man, that is why I bought it. My son just wasn't into it. He loves action figures, so it wasn't that. He has tons of X-Men, Batman, Spider-Man, Star Wars...and MORE Star Wars and he still plays with most of those. I don't think he watched any of the cartoons of new He-Man or the old though and that might have had a lot to do with him not really getting into the toys. I think he may not have known who the heck He-Man was/is and it didn't mean anything to him. And, yeah, he is way more into video games than almost anything else at this point, so I definitely Croww has a good point there.
