Title: New Mlp
Description: vs vintage MLP
wonderberry - November 9, 2004 07:06 PM (GMT)
Now that I have begun collecting MLPs (somewhat), my daughter Megan has fallen in love with them, and now wants them! (She begs me for the Starshine, Erin... but I won't budge! She's mine!) So, I've been buying her the new ones. As cute as they are, I immediately noticed they are smaller than the originals. But when I took them out of the packages, I was shocked to see their markings were only on ONE side of their "rumps"!!! how cheap! On the vintage MLPs, the markings are on both sides. Also, because of the way they package them, their manes come out all "bed-head" like, and they don't lay nicely.
does anyone like the new MLP? I still think they're really cute, and have bought more for Megs for Christmas... but I'm still disappointed. it's because of these changes that I really don't collect the new SSC either. <_<
also, does anyone know how I can get their manes to lay nicely?

Man! I should take a picture of Taigan's mlp...her mane is crazy big! I braided her tail when I first took her out of the package and it stayed nice, but her mane is wild. It is the second release Sunny Daze pony...so cute and we also have Minty somewhere, only her mane isn't quite as bad!
I really love these new ponies, I like how small they are. I do wish their Cutie Marks were on both sides of their bum, but if I were to display them, it really wouldn't matter. And why do they have a magnet under that pink mlp logo on their hoof??? I haven't figured that out yet. :D
I really want the one called Strawberry Swirl!! I have Sweetberry, but I didn't know there was another Strawberry one. I do have the vintage Strawberry Swirl, but her mane and tail are matted beyond repair.

oh! I'm going to have to look for the strawberry ones! I didn't know there WAS a magnet! I'm learning something new everyday! well, I guess I'll have to check that out! I can put them on a metal shelf, and they won't fall off! how did you find out there was a magnet on their hoof?
Berryblue - November 9, 2004 08:39 PM (GMT)
I know what you girls are talking about with just the ONE symbol on their rump. It is so annoying!
The magnets in their hooves are there because they automate some of the playsets that way.
I do love the new ones but one of my biggest qualms with them are the lack of uniqueness. There are so many ponies that look like the other ponies. They just look too much alike for the most part. The old ones will always be my favorite of course though! I mostly like the ponies from the first couple years because that is when I got them.
Melanie, I also want Strawberry Swirl! I actually have Sweetberry. I mixed up and bought her thinking I only dreamed that I saw the actual Strawberry Swirl. That is a good example of how they are making the ponies too much alike. I mean, did they really need TWO strawberry ponies at once?! (Not that I don't like ones with berries...but sheesh!)
It's like they are too tired to think of anything original or something.
So far with the new MLPs, I seem to like the white bodied ponies (probably because they are a little different than the typical colors they are sticking to thusfar). I love Periwinkle (she is one of the jewel ponies). I also love Autumn Sky and Tink-a-tink-a-too.
And HAVE you seen the new MLP plushes???
They are soooooo cute!! Megan needs one for Christmas!! lol Tink-a-tink-a-too is the cutest new plush. I know they have some here (so if you want one I could probably get one for you - no problems). They are $19.99 cdn and that is the only reason why I haven't broken down and gotten one yet. LOL Besides, I don't have the room and probably should get rid of some of the vintage plushes first! lol
As far as the crazy hair...
I have just immediately brushed their hair out and gently pulled it flat
down the side of the pony and their hair has pretty much settled on their own. I think I have around 8 or so of the new ones and their hair is a little poofy but nothing too crazy anymore.

;) Yep, the white bodied ones are my favorites too, but when I was searching earlier on the official hasbro site, I saw this blue one that is so cute. I'd love to have her, so I'm probably going to seek her out. I'm not sure what their theme is...they have some dumb names, like Kiwi Slice or something with an image of a ki-lime pie slice. Seems like they had the word Flight in their name, but I can't remember. Ugh, the things I forget in my old age! And I kind of thought that was what the magnets were for and I think it's cool that they went ahead and included the magnet with all of the ponies so that you could have any of them withe whatever playset...cool. Oh, Hasbro is taking all of my money this Christmas...what with the new release of the Playskool Star Wars action figures! We've already bought like ten of those!
(not to change the subject, but You can see Obi-Wan and Darth Vader here:
eBay auction that Jon had me win for him LOL)

Wow those figures are really cool! They look very "cartoony" :D
And as far as the Kiwi something or other MLP, I think I have heard of that one although have never seen it. I know that they are coming out with lots of new mlps so I have been restraining from buying more ponies. I only want to buy those that I really really think are pretty (not an easy feat) :)
wonderberry - November 10, 2004 01:21 PM (GMT)
cute Melanie! I like those SW figures. that was nice of Jon! I notice he's been buying you a lot of toys lately!
Megan has Periwinkle!... when I asked her to choose one, she was looking forever! I had to tell her to hurry, and she said it was hard because they all looked alike! so I agree with you Erin, they do look a lot alike! I do like that their manes are really long though... even if they are wild. I was all excited to learn they had magnets in their hoof, so when Megan got home from school, I stuck it to the side of the fridge and said, "look!" she said, "Yeah, I know... there's magnets in them for their playsets". she didn't even know what MLP was until I started getting my vintage ones in the mail! how she knew that before me... I don't know...
I have NOT seen the MLP plushes! On her Christmas list, Megan asked for a stuffed horse (although she accidentally spelt it h-o-u-r-s and I teased her about it)... and that would be great! I'll have to keep my eye out! Target is pretty much the only store I go to... so I hope they have it there.
and I haven't seen the strawberry MLPs, so I will have to look for those too! I just wasn't paying attention!

OMG Erin! Those are sooo cute! I'll have to take a look this weekend for some! Thanks for showing me!

OMG! I so almost bought Periwinkle last night, Cindie. Is she the whie one with a blue mane and tail and has a blue jewel on her bum??? She's new and had her in my paws, but alas...I couln't get all of the ponies I wanted. BUT tru did have the buy two get the third free sale going, so I bought Fluttershy with pony charm, Tink-a-Tink-a-To with pony charm and Rainbow Dash with pony charm. SO CUTE! Ugh, but I wanted Periwinkle and Peachy or peach something a whole lot too. :)
Berryblue - November 13, 2004 08:45 PM (GMT)
Yes Periwinkle is a white bodied pony with blue hair and blue jewel. She's probably my favorite THUSFAR...but there's another series of jewel ponies that I haven't seen here yet and there's a white bodied pony with gorgeous purple hair. When I see her, she is mine! lol Aside from her coloring, her pose is really really cute. :D
I also like the one with the sparkly peaches. lol I basically like all the ones with food type items (fruits, desserts, etc...)
I think that some of the prettiest new MLPs are Tink a tink a too and Fluttershy :hemanwink
wonderberry - November 15, 2004 04:53 PM (GMT)
Megan asked for Desert Rose. she has pretty glitter across her nose. I also notice they have a mark on their foot. Maybe they put this here because they didn't mark both sides of the rump? they are cute though! I keep looking for a strawberry one, but no luck!
berry elvish - November 15, 2004 06:54 PM (GMT)
I bought Taigan the Target Exclusive winter pony named Snow'el this morning...she loves it...anyway, in the booklet that came with it, there was a new Strawberry Swirl pony pictured. :D I think she comes with some accessories though, so she'll probably be a ten dollar pony, but that seems to be what I'd pay if I bought the first one on eBay anyway...so I'm waiting for her. ;)
Berryblue - November 16, 2004 07:25 PM (GMT)
Wow! Very cool. We really need a Target here! lol
I remember loving the Winter ponies from last year. :)
berry elvish - November 22, 2004 05:01 PM (GMT)
I found the new Strawberry Swirl at Walmart yesterday for $6.99. Jon bought her for me. I'm going to open my ponies sometime this week. I'm very excited to have all of the newest ones that I wanted. I doubt I'll buy any more...well, not for me anyway. :b
Berryblue - November 22, 2004 06:44 PM (GMT)
Very cool that you were able to find the ones you wanted! :)
I haven't bought a pony since I bought Periwinkle. lol I know it doesn't sound like that big of a deal...but it is! lol When they first came out I bought one every week or two. Now I only buy them if I REALLY think they are cute. I have to REALLY REALLY want it! LOL
*I am sooooo bad*
