I don't know if it's a British site. I never think about things like that unless it specifically says Great Britain or the url ends in uk, ca, it, or whatever. LOL

Cindie, when I was in Target the other night with Jon and Taigan my cart bumped into something on the floor. I walked around the cart to pick it up and it was................Merlin. Yep, they either still make it or it's a new classic release, like those handheld baseball and football games. LOL I told Jon, I have to tell Cindie about this! Oh, and I love your cpk Racer image link! That is too cute!

OMG!!!! no way!!!!! I haven't seen it ANYWHERE!!!! I told my sisters and brothers about the Merlin I saw on that website, and they all said how much they LOVED Merlin... and how they wished they had one. did it look like the old Merlin?? I'm going to Target today!! thanks for telling me. I HOPE I find one!!!

yesterday in Walmart.. I saw the newly released Atari TWO. this one has my favorite games... Pitfall, Combat, Haunted House, and Pong!!! (along with 36 other games) it has two controllers and looks just like the original Atari... it was $30. I may go back for it. Atari is a top 100 toy IMO! :party

Yes, it looked like the old Merlin. Man, those are my favorite games too! Pitfall, pong, combat, pac-man, dig dug, and spaced invaders. :P You know Jon built an arcade machine, right? Well, he set it up in the front room this past weekend and has all those games on it. Only he has pitfall two, which is equally as hard as the original but much cuter. LOL I haven't played any games on it at all, but the boys have been asking to non-stop. I was never into the idea of standing at an arcade machine to play a game...I'm a slow gamer so I'd be standing there for hours!

I want to see a picture of Jon's arcade machine! That's cool! I think I will go back for that Atari system. I keep hearing the sound effects to Pitfall, and I want to play. Don't you think it's weird that there was no background music to these old games? it's just quiet, except the occasional sound effect.

oh okay... so I saw the Merlin at Target!!! it's smaller, lighter, and the buttons are numbered instead of just little squares. And they actually light up red instead of just showing an electronic black dot when pressed. but, the games are the same. SO!!! I think I'll get one for my sister... but as for ME, I put a bid on one from 1978 new in box, on ebay. wish me luck!

Oh, sure, I'll just have the kids clean up the front room before I take a picture though. :P I hate the arcade machine in the front room because Jon took down my muppets (plushie) to put it in there and it makes an already crowded room, seem even smaller!

Well, some of the old games had background music, like dig dug and pitfall, but then some just had sound effects like space invaders. We actually didn't even own a game system. My older brother, Tracy, did. He had the Atari 2600 and he would bring it over to our house sometimes and let us play.

wonderberry - August 25, 2005 06:30 PM (GMT)
really? my pitfall game as a kid didn't have any background music! now I wonder if mine had a glitch... and what the music sounded like! I know pong and combat didn't.

so am I understanding that Jon built this arcade machine???? how'd he do that? how'd he get the games in?? I really want to see a picture!

berry elvish - August 25, 2005 09:44 PM (GMT)
 It's not what you think! He built an arcade machine case...out of wood, pressboard or something. And it's just a computer inside...with a monitor set up in there too. Basically, he built the controller and the housing, the rest is all just on a computer. So, he rigged up all of these wires to the buttons and joysticks soddering each of them into place on some motherboard thingy, I think. And just recently, he got this little part that makes connecting all of those wires really easy, so that is what he's done. I know he'd like to put some artwork on the housing to make it look more like a real arcade game.

I'm not sure what the music for pitfall sounded like, maybe there wasn't any, I know there was some for pitfall 2 and that is what I meant to write.

Whoever writes for the site is very cranky! He/she makes fun of everything. And improperly credits Violet Beauregard as being the one that wants everything, when we all know that is Veruca Salt.
I could not get past the first 3 pages because I was so annoyed at the writer. Anyone can be rude and sarcastic, only really talented writers can make those qualities funny as well.

I felt the same way about the "writer," purplestar, but I did enjoy looking through all the old toys. Ah, the memories...
