Title: Have You Gone To The Movies Lately?
Description: The Grudge
wonderberry - October 27, 2004 04:38 PM (GMT)
I know this has nothing to do with 80's toys... and I didn't know where else to post... but I went to the movies last night and saw The Grudge... it was scary!!!! do you like scary movies? I've been thinking of it all day now!
it's a lot like The Ring. I just love scary movies, and where it's almost Halloween...

You could always post something off topic in Toyland General Chat - anything goes in there (as long as it isn't off color or anything). If you'd like Melanie or I could move it over there (or if you want it in here we can keep it here)?
Now, back to the topic at hand!
YES we went to see The Grudge last Friday and it was really creepy!
What was annoying for me was that the theatre was full of high school kids that would laugh at inappropriate times (totally ruins the movie when you have someone laughing at a creepy moment, you know?)
But I agree that it was a lot like the ring...as in the visuals. The visuals were the creepiest by far. I don't want to say too much for those of you who haven't seen it yet but it was a perfect movie to go and see with it being Halloween time and all. :)
We also went to see Surviving Christmas (which stars Ben Affleck, James Gandolfini, Catherine O'Hara, and Christina Applegate) on Saturday and it was really funny. I thought Gandolfini was the best in it!
Both movies were definitely worth seeing at the theatre.

(Moved per Cindie's request)
I have not seen that movie, The Grudge or the other one, Surviving Christmas. We usually go to the movies to see a movie that Jon really wants to see, or I take the kids to the later run movies that only cost $2. So, the last movie I went to see was Exorcist The Beginning. I think. We also saw Alien VS Predator and I took the boys to see Dodgeball. I've invited Jon to the Palace (cheap, $2 theater) to see I, Robot this Friday and I can not wait to see Team America: World Police. I love scary movies too, but I'm liking going to the theater less and less as the years go on. I hardly ever go on opening night anymore because I'd rather not sit elbow to elbow with someone I don't know. Also, the last movie we saw, now that I recall the annoying people in the theater, was actually Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. There were three couples all about my age and it took them forever to get their seating arrangements together because the guys so obviously wanted to all sit together and the ladies wanted to both sit by their men and lean across them to chat with each other. They finally worked it out so that the guys sat in front of their women...but I think the women should have went to lunch or something because they were totally obnoxious and giggling and talking when we were trying to watch the movie.

YAY!! That was the first time you ever moved something, wasn't it Melanie? :D
And ohhh I know what you mean about annoying people in the theatre. Grrrrr!!!!! We were reminded of WHY we usually don't go to see something on opening night last Friday! LOL I actually came home and said..."and that is why we don't go the first Friday!"
I remember one time there was a person in there that had a foil type bag (you know...like a potato chip type bag) and they kept making that LOUD crinkle noise ALL THOUGH the movie ( I am not even exaggerating )! I think I actually went "Shhh!!!"
OHH and last Saturday during Surviving Christmas, there was this little girl who kept leaning back and forth in her chair to make this piercing sqEEEAk with each movement. I literally had a headache afterwards and while she was doing it...it was so persistent that I actually shushed her! lol Then, Mike did when it started up again later. lol
We really barely went to the movies this summer. If I don't REALLY want to see something, I refuse to go. Not to mention, those seats in there are HORRIBLE. My butt hurts so bad after a movie there! lol

I know!! Last time, Jon got up and asked a guy to stop tapping the empty seat in front of him because it was attached to our seat and it vibrates the whole thing. He was kind of nice about it, (he's a bit rude to people who are rude, even if they don't know they are being rude) and the kid/guy was pretty rude about it, but he did stop. Oh, and Jon did shush those ladies. And the one in the middle turned around and said really loudly, 'thank you'. And went back to giggling. Whatever! And these weren't even kids! So, I'm not too big on the movies anymore. But, usually Jon and I go to see the Sci-Fi flicks and it's usually just other people who really want to see the movie and we don't have much of a problem.

I don't remember the last movie I saw at a movie theatre... it's been soooo long! But, I think it was the Lord of the Rings (part 2) over Christmas. And that wasn't a problem because everyone else was there to watch it too!
I'm not someone who can watch scary movies. I get too freaking scared and have nightmares!
wonderberry - October 28, 2004 12:39 PM (GMT)
LOL Joyce! I get so scared at scary movies also, but for some reason I'm still drawn to them!
(thanks Mel, for moving this for me!)
I will only go to one movie theatre here in town, because it's sooo nice there! the seats are larger than normal, and recline, and they even have those huge love sac/beanie bags up front for people to kick back in, and there's tons of room up front, so you could sit in the front row, and still be far away from the screen... but I still sit further back. Still... there's no getting rid of annoying people! they're everywhere! I usually wait a week or two after the movie comes out to go watch it, then I go on a Tuesday during the day, when there's next to no one there.
oh, this movie theatre also shows old movies too! so we saw Beetlejuice, Footloose, and the old b/w film The Shop Around The Corner there... (really cute show, the whole theatre was full of elderly couples... we were the only young ones there!)

That is awesome, Cindie! Jon and I often entertain the thought of buying a movie theater and showing older movies too. :D

Wow! That would be neat to do, Melanie!
Joyce, I know what you mean too but I am like Cindie and just
have to see them! LOL
Have you girls ever seen a "scary" yet more campy movie from the 80s called "Motel heck"? That is one that is creepy but so campy that it's fun to watch! lol
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081184/For instance, the tagline is "It takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent fritters" LOL
I totally love campy horror movies, especially this time of year. :P
Cindie, that theatre sounds so cool. Some movies are even better to see on the big screen and it's cool that you can see old ones that no longer are widely available in that format. :)
wonderberry - October 29, 2004 01:12 PM (GMT)
no! I've never seen that movie, Erin... I'll have to look for it now! I love old horror flicks! thanks for the recommendation, I love those campy scary movies also!
okay, not to ruin The Grudge for anyone, but since Erin has seen it... (If you haven't seen it, then don't read this paragraph!)
Erin, when Sarah Michelle Gellar looks in the room, and something is "bumping" against the wall really hard... what is it?! it doesn't show it, and I've asked other people who've seen it, and no one understood that part. do you know which part I'm talking about? I really don't want to ruin it for the others...

*If you haven't seen The Grudge and are going to, don't read below*
Mike and I were just talking about it and the only thing we can think of is the whole idea of "the curse". It has consumed the entire house so everything is filled with hate and revenge. The whole idea of it being an ancient belief that that is what happens in fits of rage and negativity is just so cool.
wonderberry - November 1, 2004 02:54 PM (GMT)
that makes sense... I can never figure things out in movies though... unless they actually SHOW me.. (even then I'm asking Sean, "what's that?") LOL
Thanks Erin!

Movies nowadays always try so hard to "trick" you. So that doesn't help matters either...lol :)
