Title: Greetings from Finland!

Xara - July 14, 2005 09:25 AM (GMT)
Hello!

I'm an 18-year-old lady from Northern Europe, Finland. I mainly collect My Little Ponies from the 80's and have collected them almost all of my life. More recently I started collecting my childhood toys Forest Families (a bit like Sylvanian Families whom I also somewhat collect) and that's why I registered here - to find out more about Forest Families. I think they were made in the 80's. ^.~

Well, I don't know what to tell about myself so I just tell about my collecting. *grins* I have over 300 ponies and a bit less than 50 Forest Family creatures. Here at the 80's Toyland I'm going to see if someone know something about Forest Families and browse around in case I'm able to help others find their collectables!

I have a gallery of my My Little Pony collection here (it needs updating though) and a gallery of my Forest Families (Pikkaraiset in Finnish :P) here (needs updating too, I'm so lazy, eheh!).

I'm not going to browse here too much since the colors and the background of this site make browsing pretty painful, but if you happen to have information of Forest Families (or even collect them!), feel free to PM me or even rather e-mail me at my address xara [at] rikos.net!

Nice to meet you all! ^^

Hello Xara! We're glad to have you here!!! You have a beautiful collection! I love your ponies! :mlp it makes me want to buy more!!!! I had not heard of Forest Families, but they are sooo cute!! Thanks for sharing!
sorry the colors here hurt your eyes... they were very popular colors in the 80s. I hope you will still decide to post here! we'd love hearing from you!

:welcome Xara! Your Forest Families look a lot like Sylvanian Families or Maple Town. Maybe they are the same, but called Forest Families in Finland?

I am very glad you are here and very sorry that the colors of the site hurt your eyes. Perhaps you could change the brightness aspect of your monitor output for now while I look into modifying out color scheme. What exactly is it about the colors that makes looking at them painful?

Hi and welcome to this wonderful site. :mlp

I'm a huge Pony and Sylvanian Families fan myself too.I collected ponies most of my life too until I went into my teen years I stopped cuz I thought they were too babyish for me.When I was younger,I had 3 boxful of ponies and I don't remember which one I owned cuz I had a lot.I even owned pony-type toys which were dinosaurs, dragons, birds, cats, dogs etc.

I just checked out your Forest Families site and they are cute. Are Forest Families Japanese or European?.Maple Town is another toyline that's like Sylvanian/Forest Families that's Japanese origin too by Bandai. Here's a cute link for you to check out.

Maple Town

Would you wanna be my e-pal and share our pony/Sylvanian stories?.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone! ^^

Berry elvish, it's actually just that I have gotten used to forums that are more, well user friendly if you ask me. I mean I like 80's toys, but bleargh, not the horrifying color schemes. *grins* It's a bit like looking at a pop up ad looking around here if you ask me. Though it's only my opinion, I prefer plain colored boards. But I'll be found here as long as it will take to find someone that knows something about Forest Families! ^.~

And yes, Forest Families are a bit like Sylvanian Families / Calico Critters, Maple Town, Simba's Bear Families and other animals.. There's a gazillion different series I think. And Forest Families is the only one of which I haven't found any info online. Oh the irony. :P

RollChan1985, I don't know that much about Forest Families, but I'd say they are European. At least they were sold in Finland and Sweden. But that's all the info I have, heh. ^^; I hope I'll find a FF collector who knows everything about them and shares the info with me. :P

As for Sylvanian Families, I have a few of them from my childhood, but I don't really know anything about them either, since I'm not really a collector. I guess I should ID my Sylvanians from a SF site some day. Luckily there's much info on Sylvanian Families online, unlike Forest Families!

Welcome Xara!!! I have a couple friends from Finland, so maybe I can ask them about Forrest Families. I don't know if there's a website on-line... but maybe the best way for you to FIND people is to make a website yourself! LOL... then maybe they'll find you!!

If you are bothered by the graphics, you could always turn off images in your browser... I know the board itself has settings for you to turn off the user icons & sigs.

:ssc Hi Xara from Finland

Don't know if you are still checking in to this website - hope so. I was searching google on forest families when I stumbled upon your mail.

I am 26 year old South African and we used to find forest families in the 80's in South Africa. I collected most but are still missing a few.

YOU MUST CHECK OUT THIS WEBSITE www.mapletown.tripod.com/genuine.html
