Any other board members in Canada right now? Happy Canada Day!
What do you all do on this day? Anything special? :D :battle

Hello, eh.
I am Canadian. We don't really do much today. There should be a lot of yard sales though!
We live so close to Detroit, we are very Americanized especially with regard to TV and radio. My husband doesn't even have today off, he gets the 4th of July because his shop deals with alot of US customers (tool & mould)
A couple of nights ago (Wednesday) was the huge annual fireworks display. It's called the Freedom Festival. It's a celebration of Canada and the US's peaceful existence as neighbours. A barge in the Detroit River sets off fireworks for about half an hour. A lot of Americans come over because our Riverfront is mostly parks and on thier side it's mostly industrial. I've heard that there is usually a million people. There is also a carnival for about 2 weeks, lots of free concerts and stuff to do. The chili cook-off is yummy! We missed it this year
So, happy Freedom and Independence to all who have it and those that need it are in my heart.

Well, that is cool!! I wish that were more widely celebrated. I know we already have tons of holidays, but I think it's just good practice to reinforce friendly relationships...especially between Canada and the U.S.
I bet there are a lot of yardsales around here too. I need to go into town for the groceries anyway, maybe I'll look for some 80's toys at yardsales and that can be my own private Freedom Festival. ;)

Happy Canada Day to everyone in Canada!
It's probably more of a deal in town here than where purplestar is.
People have the day off and MANY, MANY places are closed today (which can be quite inconvenient but oh well!) Where I am, that is this city's approach to most national holidays though. Sundays are even tough with many places closed that day too. Thank goodness there's a Walmart here. lol
We are going to a nearby park today ( although it is rainy now :( )
They are having a big ribfest and some vendors and things. While, I don't really buy anything, it's nice just to go and look around. We will be spending some of the day with Mike's mom and stepdad.
Also, tonight there will be fireworks (as long as they aren't rained out) at that same park along the lake. We'll be going to that too.
I am kind of bummed because it is chilly and rainy today and I wanted to wear a new skirt I just bought. Ah well. lol
I hope everyone is having a good day regardless of where they are :D

Happy Canada Day! I've never been to the Freedom Festival... sounds fun! I wish Canada day was a bigger deal in Vancouver (at least when I was there). Every year, I kept hearing that the fireworks were cancelled!

Yeah. Some Canadian cities don't make a big deal at all about Canada Day and that's virtually unheard of for 4th of July in the US. Strange.
They ended up having the fireworks here but it was very a very chilly 50 degrees or so :cold All in all, it was uneventful here. Today is a MUCH nicer day though. The sun is out and I'm thinking about sitting outside and relaxing. :)
