Just checking out to see if the Polls have been fixed.
Feel free to answer by adding a post below (or, if by chance, it is working! Use the buttons and post!)

OMG OMG it worked!!
I first saw my favorite toy (Strawberry Shortcake dolls) at my cousin's house when I was around 4. :)

woo-hoo! Polls are working.

I picked on the shelf because I know it was a Barbie of some sort or a MLP, cuz those are the toys I was most into and I lived in a small town, so we never got what was on tv.

Heehee...I can't believe this poll is working!! I am giddy over it!!

I hope they keep working *crossing fingers*

I sincerely cannot remember!!!! My favorite toy as a child were definitely my Cabbage Patch Kids... I took them everywhere! They weren't a cartoon first, but I can't remember if a friend had one or what...

Berryblue - October 15, 2004 12:42 AM (GMT)
LOL Sometimes it is so difficult to remember things like that!
For instance, I can't remember very well with Rainbow Brite dolls. I am thinking that I saw them first on TV. I remember the cartoons always being on and the commercials for the toys were rampant! lol
I think I saw CPK first at school. I probably saw someone else with one and so the craze ensued. lol lol
It's so neat to see how everyone was introduced to their favorite toys.
Actually, it's cool just to see what everyone's favorite childhood toy was. :D

I was Strawberry Shortcake for Halloween when I was 5 and that was before the dolls were out, so I have no idea how I knew about her or how I came to like her! I do recall watching her on tv, but I think that was later...

Berryblue - October 16, 2004 10:16 PM (GMT)
LOL!! Isn't that funny how it is hard to remember WHEN or HOW we were introduced to our favorites??

I remember having some Strawberry Shortcake costumes. I had a Lemon one, a Strawberry, and an Apricot I believe. I remember first grade and seeing multiple classmates dressed as Strawberry Shortcake! LOL!! Although, I had the costumes I think I was her only once. I seemed to always want to be a witch! LOL!!

Thinking about cartoons and toys... smurfs were actually seen on tv for me (and I am guessing for most others as well). Also, She-ra is a character that was seen in a He-man cartoon before actually getting any of the dolls.

Of course, other favorites like Glamour Gals and Sea Wees never even had a cartoon (at least that I know of!).

All of this stuff is so interesting to try to remember! :hemanwink

Actually, I think the next year I was Smurfette! And the year I was Smurfette, my brother didn't pick out a costume, so on Halloween, he ended up wearing my Strawberry Shortcake costume! LOL

And I do remember how I got introduced to the Smurfs... I was in church and talking to a friend... and she asked me if I watch it... and I didn't. So, she said I should watch it on Saturday morning... and then I started watching it after that! I even had a Smurf lunch box! But my brother actually picked that out for me... 'cause I remember being disappointed because he got me something blue! (I had some kind of metal disney lunchbox before that).

OMG!!! LMAO!! I guess no one knew it was him under that mask anyway, right? Just shows the measures a kid will take for the sake of getting some free candy! LOL!! That is too funny, Joyce! LOL!!

LOL... no one knew I had a little brother under that mask... except for one house... the lady said "this Strawberry Shortcake is so cute... could you please take off your mask?" Then my brother took off the mask... and the lady said "Oh! It's a boy!" LOL

Much to your brother's horror!! LOL LOL LOL!!!

 Your poor brother! :ph43r: LOL Hey speaking of Halloween costumes, and I know I should really post this in another thread, but I don't have much to go on...

anyone have any memories of 80's costumes that had (and this is just my impression) big hats/masks that you wore on top of your head and the costume covered your body, but not your face? They were big in my area of Northern California when I was very little and all of the kids had them and I remember asking for it specifically by name, but I can't remember anything else about them, not even their name!

Berryblue - October 19, 2004 02:41 AM (GMT)
Are the costumes you are talking about worn like Dinosaur Neil's from The Tick cartoon? Those of you who aren't familiar with who I am talking about here's a link with a pic of him:Dinosaur Neil (The Tick)
Was that the type of costume anyway??

1u11aby1ambie - October 19, 2004 04:09 PM (GMT)
Actually, I don't think my brother was embarrassed or anything about being a boy wearing Strawberry Shortcake... he just thought it was for pretend anyway!

Yes, I remember those costumes! I think they still make those! I'm pretty sure I've seen a horse and other animals.

berry elvish - October 19, 2004 07:09 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was kind of like that, Erin, only the head part was big and bulbous, not like your face was the face part...I guess you were supposed to paint your face black or something. It drives me crazy to not remember! Maybe the heads were some kind of hat? Wish I could find it online.

Joyce my boys would die of embarrassment if that had happened to them. I'm sure they would choose not to wear a costume at all if their only choice was a girl's costume. And I don't push gender roles onto them!

Berryblue - October 20, 2004 12:32 AM (GMT)
Oh good! It is nice to hear that it wasn't a life shattering experience for him. lol lol

That costume...I am going to be searching for it. Mike was interested in it too and will probably look around too. lol

It sounds interesting...especially that it could be a hat or something that you wore.

If you happen to find out what it is, be sure to post here :) (of course, I will do the same)

1u11aby1ambie - October 20, 2004 09:10 PM (GMT)
My brother was only 3 at the time, so I guess he had no problem being Strawberry Shortcake.

I think the costumes I remember... your face comes out the mouth or something??

Berryblue - October 21, 2004 10:55 PM (GMT)
Wow that sounds interesting. I seem to vaguely remember what you are talking about Joyce.
This is bugging me...

Shellberry Shortcake - January 24, 2005 12:37 AM (GMT)
hmm..well-I know SS started out as the greeting card- then exploded into the dolls -cartoons & everything else...

but I freally don't remember how I actually got 'into' her as a child-I suppose someone got her for me as a gift--I remember my neighbor used to buy me the dolls & she surprised me with one one halloween when I was sick and couldn't trick or treat....

Joyce--lol about your brother....

Mel-I have no clue what you are talking about , lol

Berryblue - January 24, 2005 04:51 PM (GMT)
That is such a sweet memory to have about SSC, Shell. That was so nice of your neighbor to get you a dollie on Halloween.

Shellberry Shortcake - January 24, 2005 11:02 PM (GMT)
it's weird--all the 5.5 poseables I had when I was younger--came from her/them
They still live there too--next time I'm at my parents I'll have to run over with a thank you card.
