i personally am not fond of the new MLP. i really hate the new packaging the colors are dark, i don't think they should have changed the colors from pastel to dark red and purple. as for the ponies themselves they are ok. i don't like the new strawberry shortcake or the new rainbow brite either :nono :argh

:agree I totally agree with you on the new ponies and Strawberry Shortcake dolls.
My Little Pony just ain't what it used to be.I'm really into the old skool line because I grew up with it. :mlp This Christmas, they are gonna make a My Little Pony Christmas movie, but it's not like gonna be like old skool cartoon.

I used to love watching Strawberry Shortcake when I was younger.I never really owned any of the dolls since I was born in 1985 and she died out at that time.I totally don't like how Strawberry Shortcake looks like now.Doesn't have that cute Anime-ish look and looks too cartoony. The 1991 re-release dolls are not too bad,but I have to admit that American Greetings already ran out of ideas at that point since the 1991 line didn't last too long. :yum

The new Rainbow Brite dolls I don't mind as much. They look like the ones from the 1980s,but of course the old skool line will always be the berry best. :sleep

My only beef with the new ponies is they do not have that one-of-a-kindness of the old characters. They all seem like clones of one another. In the old days you would never do something llike mix up Gusty's character with Shady becuase they were so different in the cartoon..Nowdays, ponies don't have much that sets them apart form one another....

Well, personally, I am okay with the new ponies and the new SSC BUT I do have to say that I am not too keen on the way they are like clones of one another. With the new SSC, I take it as a whole different line. These are not even comparable to the vintage 80s SSC and shouldn't be compared. They are TOTALLY different and for this new generation of kids.

Same goes for the new MLP but, to be honest, I think the one thing Hasbro did right was make the darker colors. Before the dark colors, ALL the ponies looked completely identical to me. I am really drawn to the darker ones just because they are not all the same and have a little more personality.

Now, what I don't like about the new SSC dolls is that they keep coming out with the exact same dolls just wearing different outfits. That is annoying and an obvious ploy to give more of our money, whether it be because we are collectors and want every version or because you are a kid and are drawn in by the newest new crazed version (it's SSC but she's a mermaid now). I basically just like to get one of each character and call it a day. lol

The new Rainbow Brite and Care Bears are pretty cute and very much like their 80s counterparts so I really don't have a problem with them.

Bottom line is... you can't really compare them to YOUR toys from 80s or 90s. After all, these versions are linked to heartfilled memories of good times before you became overwrought with your problems of today and the current events. :)

Uhm, yeah! This is Bandai's fault in my opinion...they do this with every freaking one of their line of toys! I mean how can they still be putting out Hello Kitty, Power Rangers, and Digimon? I don't understand how people are still buying this stuff. :nono Okay, no offense to collectors. I mean, I understand...I still buy Star Wars toys and mourn the ones I can't. :) :goof :sw2

Exactly! It's one thing to have lots of new characters and therefore new dolls but because this just keeps happening over and over again, it starts to make a savvy consumer feel used and taken advantage of.

It's not just the toymakers of today either. This is one reason why I am not collecting the vintage Party Pleaser Strawberry Shortcake dolls and getting rid of the few I have. I mean, I will keep Peach and Plum because they are entirely different characters but the same dolls in different outfits... C'mon now. I don't the space, time, or money to be collecting them just for their new party dresses. lol

I see your point, Erin. I don't have many PP either pretty much for that reason. And why do they cost so much more than the original just because they are in a different outfit? I purchased a PP Strawberry outfit and a PP custard piece by piece over the years and redressed an old original doll I had...and Volia! Party Pleaser! I do love the party pets though. And I think that the vintage SS is so cute that if I was given a good deal, I'd definitely buy all of the 5.5" dolls anyway, but yeah...give us berry wear and we'll buy it if we want new outfits!

Oh, I forgot to leave my comment on the new MLP. I think they are adorable. I love the cartoon versions of them especially. If I didn't have to limit my collections I can see myself totally caught up in mlp collecting. Lots of them are very similar that is true, but some are gorgeous...I especially love orange, yellow and blue ponies. :D I also LOVE minty and want her with the butterfly wings so badly.

So so true! We could go on and on! LOL And it is true that the PP pets are adorable. It's too bad you had to buy a duplicate doll in a new outfit to get it. lol That's the way a business works, I suppose. lol

I have to agree that a lot of the new ponies are soooo cute. My favorites seems to be the white bodied ones and the dark ones, especially the dark turquiose blue. I LOVE Water fire ( I think that's her name ). She has flame orange hair w/ tinsel.

But, yeah, I'd say it's tough to compare new with the vintage because it's like apples and oranges. lol :D

:bbm :ssc I have got two words for you guys!! OLD SCHOOL I was just discussing this the other day...The first is most of the time if not always the best.
That goes for SSC,MLP, movies, music etc. Why can't they just leave well enough alone and stop trying to make toys in the likeness of the original. If it is not broke, don't fix it. The 80's toys are just fine :D the way they were originally. Amen
