Description: It's Summertime!!!

Kaleidoquin - June 1, 2005 07:54 AM (GMT)
Get out those beach towels and iced tea makers!! It's summertime! :sun

Just wanted to wish everyone a happy first day of June!

Now remember kids, UV rays are harmful and you should be sure to wear sunscreen whenever in the sun for prolonged amounts of time. Just look at what happened to poor Harry here.! :blush (Note: Harry's picture fades between before sun and sunburned photos) Don't be Harry! Wear SPF 30+!

:evil

berry elvish - June 4, 2005 05:33 AM (GMT)
 It totally poured on us while we were finishing the setting up of the pool today. It actually toggled between downpours and sunshine...with a bit of large droplets of rain while the sky looked clear and sunny. And it's still technically tornado season, but I've been wearing my sunscreen almost every day. And I've been stressing the necessity to my children. I've forgotten to put it on twice this 'summer' already and both times I received a bit of a sunburn.

Happy June to you too and everyone! :carebear

Berryblue - June 6, 2005 07:10 PM (GMT)
Woohoo! I love summer and am soooo happy it is nearly here!
I am not too big on winter because that's mostly what it is throughout the year in Northern Ontario. lol

purplestar - June 8, 2005 07:38 PM (GMT)
I'm with you Mary. I love winter  . I cannot stand the humidity in Windsor. I hate it so much. We don't have central air, just fans and an air conditioner (which isn't in yet  ) so I don't feel like moving. It's too sticky :P .

We are going to Burlington, ON this weekend. It's on Lake Ontario, so I think it will be nice B) . I've never been there. But I looked up all the thrift stores online.
When I get back I'll let you all know if I found any treasures. There are a couple old bookstores near the hotel. I love looking through the crowded aisles. Hopefully I will find what I am looking for...Ray Bradbury's A Medicine for Melancholy. It's on ebay, but I'd rather look for it the old fashioned way. More fun :D

About the sunscreen...I always forget. Last weekend my community had a yard sale. We got light burns even though we were in the shade all day. Joey was wearing a hat, so he has a seriously noticeable tanline...straight across his forehead!

wonderberry - June 8, 2005 10:41 PM (GMT)
it's been freezing cold and raining here! today it was 47 degrees outside. :cold I don't like the cold! and we only get about 2 months of actual warm weather a year it seems! It snowed and hailed downtown yesterday... and they said it might come this way. It's raining right now. It really doesn't feel like June!!! I can't wait for the sun!!! :sun

Berryblue - June 8, 2005 11:10 PM (GMT)
You sound like me Cindie! lol I am endlessly waiting for the sun it seems!
Hellloo??? Sun??? Come out!! lol

Purplestar, I'll have to look up again where Burlington is. I think I have been there. I grew up on the port of Lake Ontario but on the other side of the border in NY. :) Good luck on your trip! I hope you find lots of good stuff :D Let us know! *wink wink*

I like moderate temps, but I do miss it getting warm enough to go swimming! The water here never warms up enough to swim anyway. I think it's been like 10 years since I got to go swimming (like in a body of water, not a pool).

mary - June 13, 2005 01:57 AM (GMT)

Berryblue - June 14, 2005 05:07 PM (GMT)
I wonder if it's still cold there, Wonderberry?
It was cold here last week but this week...holy! It is HOT! 80-90 degrees! :sun
I know the midwest has been experiencing some major storms and I was wondering how you midwesterners were doing??

berry elvish - June 16, 2005 02:18 AM (GMT)
:meadow The weather's been a bit scarey, but it usually is at this time of the year. Our end of May through around July first is hot, humid and stormy. Lots of rain fall and tornadoes. I haven't seen any tornadoes, just one funnel cloud, but I've heard of a bunch, mostly in Missouri. I hope we make it through 'tornado' season without seeing one either! The rivers and big ditches are all full of water atm and that is cool since most of the surrounding rivers' waters have been diverted for other purposes and mostly look like nearly dried up river beds. The kids have been swimming in their little pool every day though, so I suppose their enjoying their summer. :D :snowdrop

Berryblue - June 16, 2005 03:11 PM (GMT)
I think of you everyday, Melanie, and wonder if you have seen any tornadoes or are going through any nasty storms. I see the big stormclouds on the weather map in your area of the country and I cringe. It does sound like the kids are having fun thusfar. Are they out of school already? I know the school year isn't over here until the June 30th this year! They keep pushing it back further and further and to make matters worse, Mike has to return to work at the end of August instead of early September! :o

berry elvish - June 16, 2005 04:13 PM (GMT)
Well, we still have a traditional school year here. The kids start school in late August and it ends in mid-May...so 9 consecutive months with 3 off. I believe this year though the children got out of school on May 26th and they go back August 22nd. We live in a very small school district and it's Catholic so they take special 'holidays' off school, like for first holy communion and such. Plus, if there is a football or basketball game or a track meet, all of the grades get either half day or the whole day off since the elementary/junior high is across the street from the highschool and they all share parking space. So, we tend to go a week longer than other areas and we also usually start before them to make up the time.

The storms bother me somewhat...not too much though. When it starts scaring me that is when I turn on the news and search for Tornado Watch or Warning. Mostly it's just Severe T-Storm warning or watch and that doesn't bother me at all. What is the weather like in Ontario right now?

Hey, why does Mike have to start back to work so soon? His summer hasn't even started yet! I'm guessing your school district is leaning towards year round school...that is such a hassle in my opinion. I suppose it's great for working parents, but not having that long summer break would stress me out. I went to a non-traditional highschool (the one in Hesperia, CA with Cindie  ) but I switched 'tracks' so I could continue with a traditional school year. And I'm glad that I did since that is when I met Cindie. :D

Berryblue - June 16, 2005 06:35 PM (GMT)
The weather here's been warm (around 80-90 degrees) until yesterday when this cold front came in. Right now it's rainy, gloomy, and chilly... (probably around 40-50)

It's good that the kids have the time off that they do. I think it's important to de-stress. Yes, kids get stressed too, "folks at the school boards who make these decisions". We don't know why the board had decided to extend the year as they have. They are VERY tight with the time they allow the teachers and students off. Even when it's 30-40 below zero, they'll send them to school and forget about the teachers getting to stay home when the kids get a cancellation. The teachers still have to risk their lives getting to work AND stay the entire day (with no students). If they even try to call in sick, they need a dr's note. It's just insane and doesn't make sense. It shows a complete lack of respect and concern for their staff as well as treating them like students with the note thing. <_<

YESSS, only one more month of summer to go. september doesn't count come on december
bring on the blizzards. :frostywink :party :cheers :cold

Shellberry Shortcake - July 6, 2005 04:33 AM (GMT)
omg-I can't believe that summer is going SO FAST!!

I hope you all are having a super time!

purplestar - July 6, 2005 11:21 AM (GMT)
Well Burlington was just as sticky as Windsor, . At least we had a hotel with air conditioning and a pool. Apparently there is no place to actually get into the lake near the hotel (ie a BEACH). People said the water is too cold anyways....yeah? Let me be the judge :P

I found a few boy CPK's, finally! And some Holly Hobbie mugs. Joey didn't mind going thrifting with me because the stores were nice and cool. Yes, we do have air in the truck, but from the parking lot to the store was a short, hot, hot, hot walk.

We need rain around here. My father in law is a farmer, so I am always aware of this type of thing now  But I love thunderstorms anyways. It's been cloudy but still sticky and hot. Thanksfully my yard is almost all shade so my Dog can stay a bit cooler. He actually prefers it indoors now, except at night. He's a winter lover as well!

I am going to retire up North, nevermind Florida.
