Title: Poor Anakin...possible spoilers
purplestar - May 23, 2005 04:44 AM (GMT)
I will never look at Darth Vader the same way again. :battle
I cannot accurately express how I feel. No doubt he did terrible things. But I feel sad for him. I can't help it.
Revenge of the Sith had no surprises really, but it was well worth the wait. I am sad to see the saga end. My only consolation is watching Episodes 4, 5 and 6 so I can witness Anakin finally fulfilling his destiny.
As a side note, I thought it was so sad when Yoda told Chewy goodbye and that he would miss him. Yoda never saw Chewy again until after he died, on Endor at the celebration.
There were many moments in this movie that broke my heart. The jedi being murdered, the youngling situation, the final scene between Anakin and Obi-Wan.
All this because he wanted to keep someone he loved from dying. I am so sad right now. I can't stop crying when I think of it. Pathetic, I know. But htese movies mean so much to me. Time to go...I can barely see my keyboard through the tears :(

I didn't see it--I can never get into these movies, lol
but Bob went to see it with his friend last night.

I saw it on opening day and I'm taking my boys to see it after school today. I didn't tell them anything about the movie! I hate spoilers and I hate spoiling it for others, so I am so glad for this thread.

The day after I saw the movie I was so emotional...every time I thought about it I'd tear up. I knew it was going to happen (Anakin becoming Vader), but even to the end I still had hope that he wouldn't turn. And I was so mad every time the council would do or say something that helped Anakin turn just a little bit more! And Padme'!! Oh, I love her so much and I was so sad when she willed herself to death... :hksad The moment the Emperor gave the order and the Clones turned on the Jedi, my throat constricted and I had to literally hold my heart. I was torn up! I'm taking Kleenex this time and I expect to use it. I took some the first time, but managed to keep my tears in my head. *sigh* The movie was so great and I'm really glad for that.
purplestar - May 25, 2005 02:35 AM (GMT)
Yes, kleenex is a neccessity.
I couldn't hold it in. I cried on and off through the entire thing, but as the credits rolled I just sat there and cried. My husband kept asking me what was wrong, but if he didn't know then how could I explain it?
Well worth the wait. Hayden Christiansen was perfect. His eyes say a lot.

The movie was super the second time around. I did cry, but wasn't in shock as much as I was the first time. I know, even the first time, I too was expecting the Jedi to be killed, but when it happened the way it happened shocked me. I didn't watch any movie trailers before seeing it the first time and I avoided all commercials and asked everyone not to tell me anything about it. My husband reads the Star Wars books and he couldn't help, but tell me details and stuff from those...even though I begged him not too. LOL
I feel obsessed with Anakin right now! I want all of his action figures and any Darth Vader/Anakin related new stuff. Obi-wan is my favorite (really, it's Qui-Gon, but since he was killed off in the first movie...) male character, so my family has been getting me Obi-wan stuff, but since E3 I'm turning to the dark side. Amy, have you seen the new Vader bed Buddy? I think he's called a wrestling doll and he's plush and when you punch his chest (or hug him as I did) he says Darth Vader lines. Cuteness, but he's twenty bucks and I couldn't justify sitting around hugging on a plush Vader doll, so I did not get him.
Oh, and has anyone heard of Lucas' plans for a SW tv series that bridges Episode 3 with Episode 4? I read about it in Entertainment Weekly, I think. It will be a short run series like The Young Indiana Jones was. I have no idea what will be depticted in this series though. Not a whole lot with Luke, Leia and Darth Vader is really left to the imagination, nor would it be that interesting to watch Luke growing up on Tattoine on a Moisture Farm! Leia and her political career...blah and Vader at the Emporer's side might be slightly interesting, but not enough to create an entire tv series around. However, I think Obi-Wan living in exile, studying the ways of the Force, communing with Qui-Gon and watching over Luke would be cool. Throw in some Academy stuff so we can see what Luke is missing by being kept on the farm...things like that ought to be pretty good, I think.
purplestar - May 25, 2005 03:57 PM (GMT)
Yes, I read the Entertainment weekly article as well. I guess that new series will be all we have left to look forward to. My brother reads the New Jedi Books. He told me some unhappy news that I wish I didn't know. I won't tell you because it is a huge spoiler.
And I know what you mean about being obsessed with Anakin/Vader. I went and found the Darth Tater Mr. Potato head, Vaders new action fig...still looking for Anakin and ay the Salvation Army I found the vintage Vader carrying case for action figs. Too bad it was empty!
I have not seen the bed buddy, that name sounds a little racy! But I'll look for it.
Sleeping with Darth Vader...talk about going to the Dark side.
My email is x13purplestar@yahoo.ca ,btw.
berry elvish - May 26, 2005 02:33 AM (GMT)
Congratulations on your Darth Vader figure case! I always wanted one and am getting the new ones for my boys for Christmas. I sure hope their new figures fit into it. :D
My husband has his small, but mint-condition Star Wars collection from when he was a kid and he has a carrying case...with figures...with accessories! I'm amazed every time he breaks it all out to show me. :D I didn't get any SW toys when I was a kid...nor any Strawberry Shortcake. I did buy myself a yoda at a conveinent store when I was like 8 years old and I also traded for a nude Strawberry Shortcake doll, but that was the extent of my childhood collection.
I got your email addy, thanks for posting it. B)
wonderberry - May 29, 2005 11:11 PM (GMT)
My husband also has his old childhood SW figures from the 70s... in mint condition too... and he has a ton of them. He's really big into SW, and I really liked the orginal 3 (E4,5 & 6) but could not get into the newer... E1 &2. Well, when E3 came out I agreed to watch it with my husband. At Melanie's insistence, I watched E1 & 2 before seeing 3 so I could understand what was going on better. I am so in LOVE with it!!!! I cried in E3!!!! Anakin was such a cute, sweet, boy... I was sorry to see his arrogance destroy his sweet demeanor. And here... he was doing all this because he thought learning of the dark side would save Padme', when really... she'd have been saved if only he'd stayed good. And I really wept when the young Jedi came to Anakin asking what they should do... and then he did that!!! They were coming to him for protection! I was really amazed at how quickly all went awry when Anakin pledged himself to the dark side. Poor Yoda! He knew from the beginning that Anakin should not be trained to be a Jedi. I wish I could go see it again. it was hard enough finding a sitter for the baby this time though. :(

where did you find this?!?! I want one!! :envious
berry elvish - May 30, 2005 04:40 PM (GMT)
I know they have the Darth Taters at KB...I didn't look at TRU, but maybe there and Kmart too. I saw them online. Hey, did you guys know that you can order toys directly from Hasbro now?? I got some new Sith toys and the yoda for the Jedi Force series of toys.
Cindie, you described Sith so well! I agree, I think Padme would have been fine if Anakin hadn't turned. I also think that Sidious sent Anakin those nightmares. He knew that Anakin was afraid of losing Padme and that would also give him the leverage he needed to turn Anakin to his side. Sidious is a very good conductor...he orchestrated Anakin's fall from the beginning...and he even implied that it was his Master that influenced Anakin's creation in the first place! Wow, this movie was superb and I'm so glad I got to see it. I can not wait for the next DVD boxed set. :D
Oh, did I mention that Lucas said he was reworking all six movies to be 3-d?? What does that mean? Surely, he's not talking about making us all wear glasses to watch all six movies?
wonderberry - May 30, 2005 11:23 PM (GMT)
yes, I think that means we'll have to wear glasses throughout the movies... which may be neat the first time, but I wouldn't want to always have to watch them that way. I can't wait for E3 to come out on DVD so I can watch it over and over again. Thank you Melanie for pushing me to watch these! I'm so in love with them now!
and didn't you think it was so cute when Yoda ran up Chewy's arm? :sw3 :yoda
purplestar - May 30, 2005 11:45 PM (GMT)
I got Darth Tater at Zellers in Canada. Shh, don't tell anyone but I hid a couple of them behind the Playskool stuff. They were 14.99cdn. They would cost about $11.75cdn to ship though. I can pick up one for you if you absolutely can't find it anywhere else and don't mind paying that much. I'm getting my honey to take me to Detroit very soon so I can find a Target.
I'm glad, Wonderberry, that you were forced to watch these movies! And yes, Yoda climbimg on Chewy is sweet. I love Chewy so much, so I was extremely happy to see him in Ep.3. Those Wookiees are awesome to watch in action.
I have been watching Ep.4,5, and tonight 6 and finding little tidbits that tie in nicely with Ep.3.
2 questions:
How did Leia become a Princess when her "father" was a senator?
Obi-Wan says Yoda trained him, but that was Qui-Gon. But I do see that really, Yoda was the leader of all the Jedi pretty much, so I can let that slide.
Also, Obi-Wan tells Vader "if you strike me down I shall become more powerful than even you can imagine" ...so I guess that's what he's been learning from Qui-Gon all these years.
I could go on forever!
berry elvish - May 31, 2005 11:35 AM (GMT)
Perhaps they elect princesses and Queens on Alderaan like they do on Naboo. Or Kings and the daughter of a King would be a princess in title. I'm not sure. And I do think that is why in Sith Yoda tells Obi-wan that Qui-Gon is now able to communicate with the living, so that kind of explains how Yoda, Obi-Wan and Anakin are all ghostly figures in Jedi. Good points, Amy.
I can't wait for Sith to be on DVD mostly because I love watching the deleted scenes and extras (if any) and I'm dying to see what was left out of Sith.
Cindie, I'm so glad that you loved the movie! I'm glad because now we can talk about it. :D I can't believe that I went from hating (but never truly because I always thought he was the coolest character) Darth Vader/Anakin to just absolutely loving Anakin and feeling heart-sad for Vader. I never would have imagined growing up that Anakin turned in the name of love. Or rather fear of losing love, but still!
wonderberry - May 31, 2005 08:12 PM (GMT)
yes, at the end of E3 Yoda tells Obi-Wan that he has more training for him... so that is when Yoda will take over training Obi-Wan... and that will be how Obi-Wan can be "more powerful". Of course, I don't really know... that is just my take on it.
I soooo love these movies!!!! George Lucas is genious! :sw1
purplestar - June 1, 2005 04:09 AM (GMT)
I also read about the 3D thing. I hope George comes up with better glasses than those cheapo paper ones!
I actually don't think 3D is necessary...I think George just can't quite give up SW yet but he unfortunately isn't into making any more (like stories from the New Jedi Order novels).
berry elvish - June 1, 2005 09:18 PM (GMT)
Right! Jon has an entire book shelf dedicated to the New Jedi Order books. I need to read them, I was only waiting until I saw the final movie. :D
I'm very confused why Lucas would want to put the movies into that format when holographic or at least HD would be so much better. But, as long as he releases Phantom, Clones, and Sith in DVD format as a boxed set...unaltered, or at least significantly unaltered, at or before this Christmas I'm happy. :D
