Title: I've got a stumper for ya
Description: *identified as Lil' Me dolls

deighcow - May 9, 2005 04:51 AM (GMT)
Hi, I'm new to this forum. I LOVE 80's toys, I grew up with them. Especially the more obscure ones that I used to play with.

Here's the toy I seek:
It's a plastic girl. She has some kind of plastic skirt that was changable. I get the feeling that the skirt might have been a ballerina skirt or a flower of some type, because it's shape was like a teacup upside-down without the handle. I think the girl herself was skinny, and maybe 6" high. Since the skirt was plastic, it had a hole that you slide the girl into. Maybe she was a fairy, I'm not sure.

I know that's pretty vague, but you guys are good at this, and I thought I'd give it a try.

Thanks for the effort!
Excellent work on all those other ID's!!!! :grover

were they dolly pops???

deighcow - May 9, 2005 05:44 PM (GMT)
No, they were a little bigget than Dolly Pops. They were 3 dimensional, and rounded. I'm going to try to see if my sisters remember any more details that I can post later today.

The doll sounds kind of familiar, but I don't recall the name! Sorry I can't be of more help!

Berryblue - May 12, 2005 12:36 AM (GMT)
Hey there! :wave Welcome to Toyland :welcome

I have been searching around for you and was wondering if you were able to find anymore info on these dolls? I have come across a few possibilities but the problem is that I cannot find any images anywhere to see what these dolls look like.
Here is what I've found so far:
QUOTE
Fashion Gals
They were about 1/2 the size of a Barbie- and very skinny. They had big hair and changeable clothes and shoes

Or...
QUOTE
Love Buds
A flower with a little watering cup; when you water it a little doll pops out of it.

OR...lol
QUOTE
Moppet's Secret Dollhouse
Moppet was a blonde-haired small doll with an oversized pink and blue polka dot skirt. Hidden underneath the skirt was Moppet's Secret Dollhouse - a sort of cirular doll's apartment with three rooms.

There was a bedroom, a living room and another room or two and each of the rooms was furnished with items like a bookcase, TV etc.

Moppet also came with another pink and blue dress of normal proportions for when she was not sat on top of the secret dollhouse.

Moppet's Secret Dollhouse is now extremely hard to find and is highly sought after by doll collectors and nostalgic adults alike.

Well, I will just keep looking unless one of these descriptions sound familiar? Please add anything else you can remember and it would help out in the search :D

BTW...welcome!!! :welcome I am happy to meet you!

deighcow - May 12, 2005 02:15 AM (GMT)
Thanks so much for all of that work. I was unable to get a better description from my sister.

Off of the top of my head, I am not sure if it was any of those, but the 3rd one sounds like another toy I had and didn't know even how to ask about it!!! I remember having a "dollhouse" that was circular and spun around with different rooms, and I didn't think anyone else had that, so maybe this is the answer to both of my questions! I'll do more research, and find out.

Thanks again, and thanks for welcoming me! That was sweet! I think I'm going to really like this board! :poochie

deighcow - May 12, 2005 03:26 AM (GMT)
Wow! That Moppet thing was the other toy I was looking for! Unfortunately it wasn't the doll I was originally posting about.

That doll didn't have a skirt made of cloth, it was made of plastic, and you put her into a hole in the middle. It might be the fashion gals, though.

I'm still looking for pics of the other 2 dolls.

Thanks so much! I never would have found that without your help!!!!! :D :thx

Still searching for a pic of the Fashion Gals. :snuffy

AWESOME!!! :woo
You know what???? I actually had the Moppet's Secret Dollhouse! OMG OMG!! I totally forgot until I saw that picture!! That is soooo amazing!!
Great work finding those images! heehee We make a good team! :D
I am curious now as to what Fashion Gals look like. Hmmm...

deighcow - May 12, 2005 07:05 PM (GMT)
We are a good team! It makes me want to remember all those old toys, and find them. I finally feel like someone else understands!!! :) I love this old stuff. Why were the toys of the 80s so much better than todays toys?

Do you guys collect the old toys or just look them up on the net? I have collected a couple of things. I have a nice little collection of Clown Arounds, and I bought my favorite Charmkin. Just recently I bought the old Fisher Price Cash Register (and it even had 2 coins in it!). It made me very happy! Oh yeah, and I have Bysy Bears too!!! I'll try to take a pic so I can share with you guys.

What about non-toy 80s stuff? I would give an arm & a leg to see an episode of Pinwheel again! :cookie

I keep thinking the doll you are looking for was a type of flower doll. I remember playing with a doll with a skirt you could pop on and off, but can't remember if it was really a flower.

And yes, most of us all collect some 80s toys and like to talk about 80s tv shows, etc!!

Berryblue - May 13, 2005 12:58 AM (GMT)
YAY!! I am so happy you found us and we do understand you! lol
Just with your post alone, I remembered Moppet! lol I knew I had her from the dress. I kept that darn dress FOREVER (although now I'm not sure where it went!lol) -- so long, in fact, that I had completely forgotten where it actually came from! And NOW...I know! LOL!!

I collect lots of different 80s toys. My favorites are Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Brite, My Little Ponies, Princess of Power (She-ra), Sea Wees, Dazzle Dolls, and Glamour Gals. I do have Care Bears and a few Get Along Gang things but I mostly like getting the ceramic mugs and things I can use with those. Actually, my favorite things to find are 80s mugs. lol

And oh yes! Anything 80s related is great! We love chatting about old 80s shows so if you think of something just post away! You can also look up older threads and post in those or even go to the polls section and create one of your own or reply to one. :D

Make yourself at home and have fun! :)

deighcow - May 13, 2005 03:35 AM (GMT)
I love Sea Wees too! What were Dazzle Dolls and Gloamou Gals?

This forum is nice! :ernie

I always thought the skirt of the toy I posted about may have been flower-related, but I could be way off. I only have one vague memory of them. That's why I wish I could see a picture, maybe it would trigger a memory or 2. Anyway, keep it in the back of your mind, and if you ever remember what it was, we'll be here. Thanks!

Berryblue - May 16, 2005 05:26 PM (GMT)
I will keep thinking about this toy and if anything pops up, I'll let you know.

Glamour Gals and Dazzle Dolls are nearly the same really. Kenner made Glamour Gals and Mattel made Dazzle dolls. They are little fashion dolls, similar to mini-barbies. I used to LOVE them...and still do. This is a collection that I work very slowly on though. lol

Here's a great Glamour Gals site (I love it!) : http://www.geocities.com/leggy_dolls/ggdirectory.html

Here's the section about Dazzle Dolls on that same site (super informational):

deighcow - May 19, 2005 02:51 PM (GMT)
That's neat! I think I had one of those growing up, but I'm not sure which. :)

deighcow - May 23, 2005 03:38 AM (GMT)
I was just telling my sister about this site, and my search for these dolls. She thinks the doll I'm looking for came with more than one skirt, and she thinks the dolls were not poseable. She also thinks they may have had comable hair.

Don't know if that helps any, but thought I'd add details to see if I could boost anyone's memory of them. Thanks!

Berryblue - May 23, 2005 07:55 PM (GMT)
Great info to work with! Thanks for posting that :D
I am going to continue searching :wave

1u11aby1ambie - May 23, 2005 10:11 PM (GMT)
You know... I want to say it was a Polly Pocket, but I don't think they came in a bigger size. I wonder if it came out around the same time as them though...

deighcow - May 24, 2005 06:56 PM (GMT)
I am inclined to think not. I am 25, and this is a memory from when I was pretty little, I think. And, I think that Polly Pockets came out when I was a bit older. Plus, they were so tiny when they first came out.

You know how the Polly Pocket clothes are plastic-y but streatchy? The skirts I'm referring to weren't streatchy. Maybe a little bendy, but not streachy. Does that make sense?

Shellberry Shortcake - May 24, 2005 08:38 PM (GMT)
omg-was the outfit like rubbery?

I think I got one of these in a 'lot' a while ago...she came with a creepy rubber outfit

RollChan1985 - May 25, 2005 10:49 PM (GMT)
I think the toy your talking about is called Flatsy Doll.It was a 70s doll.I found a link about a description of the Flatsy Dolls.

Flatsy Dolls

Keep scrolling down until you get into the F section, and you will find Flatsy Dolls. :afro

1u11aby1ambie - May 25, 2005 11:08 PM (GMT)
The flatsy dolls have cloth clothing. I think these were vinyl clothed dolls!

Shellberry Shortcake - May 26, 2005 07:09 AM (GMT)
hmmmm...
very confusing, lol

deighcow - May 27, 2005 03:13 AM (GMT)
Ok, so her clothes were not cloth. All she had that you could change was her skirt, I think. And she was 3 dimensional, not flat (good work, though).

The skirt was some kind of rubbery-plastic material. Not like the newer Polly Pockets, where the clothes stretch, and have a kind of gross-squishy feel to them. It was like plastic that wasn't hard like a Barbie chest is hard, it was bendy like a Barbie head is bendy.

Does that make sense?

LOL!! I had to post! I loved Shell's description of her doll's outfit!

berry elvish - July 10, 2005 10:46 PM (GMT)
Show us your doll, Shell. I'm curious to see this creepy rubber outfit!

Bren41882 - July 11, 2005 04:14 AM (GMT)

Lil' Me Dolls
These Schaper dolls are about 4 inches tall, made of hard plastic. They come with interchangeable clothing and stands; the hats or head pieces had hair attached. They were sold individually on a card or in a box.

childofthe80's - July 19, 2005 04:50 AM (GMT)
Hey berry elvish...was this the one you were speaking of?

:lambie I hope this is the doll that they were looking for...

Lil Me Doll :party

Let's keep our fingers crossed!! :elf

berry elvish - July 19, 2005 05:15 AM (GMT)
Yep, that is her. I am in the middle of a trade with someone for a doll just like this, so I was thinking that I might try to find out who she was. And that is her, most definitely. But, lets see if our friend can tell us if this is the same doll that she's looking for!

deighcow - July 19, 2005 02:43 PM (GMT)
I think that's it!!! I knew you guys could do it!! Yay!! Now I can start searching for one to buy!! Yay!! I think I had the brunette with the hoop skirt! The description of her sounded exactly right! How did you manage to find that???

You guys are miracle workers!

You know how you don't remember things exactly the way they were? I remembered her a bit different, but from that description, I think it's right!

Thanks so much!

I love this board! :cheers

childofthe80's - July 20, 2005 03:27 AM (GMT)
