When I was young I had these toys (I still have them) that I called Nerfles. I'm not sure if that is what they are called or not. They were these little balls with faces on them. Some of them had little feet holders and a little hat that you could make them look like people. One that I remember is a blue dog that had a little cup that made him look like he had feet and blue ears that you could sit on his head. I also had a "popper" that was blue with a yellow accordian looking thing that you could use to shoot them across the room with. You would put them in the little hole and then push down on the yellow part to send them flying. I have "googled" the term "Nerfle," but didn't get any results. Any idea of what I am talking about?

There most definitely were toys called Nerfels in the late 80's. I am on the hunt!
