Title: Did Your Childhood CPK Look Like You?
Description: did you care?
berry elvish - September 16, 2004 02:30 AM (GMT)
Anything else you want to say about your childhood cpk? :D
Berryblue - September 16, 2004 03:46 PM (GMT)
Since there is a problem with submitting multiple choice polls, I say we all just write our choices in our reply boxes as we have had to do in the past.
My choice is 2. A little bit like me, different eyes or hair.
My first CPK as a 7 yr old was a brunette with brown eyes (I have blue eyes). She had a single pony tail that was tied at the end. Her name was Jacqueline Cassandra. LOL
Funny how I couldn't forget it!
Good poll!! :D

I was wondering if there was a bug, cuz it wouldn't let me vote either!
My answer is:
1. Yes, just like me!
I remember that her name was Evelyn Mae. She had tan hair in two pig tails, blue eyes, peach corduroy overalls and a white blouse. So cute. I loved her so much. I believe it was 1984 that I got her, and that would make me 10 at the time. :D I no longer have her and my frenemy, Marcy, talked me into taking her yarn hair out of her pig tails and I could never get them back in right!

I got an error when I tried to vote??
Anyway, my answer is: 4. Not at all, but I loved him/her anyway.
I have 4 dolls, and they are either blonde or bald with blue eyes. Well, they didn't make Asian ones back then, but I liked blonde hair, so I got a blonde doll! I remember I specially ordered it through Toys R Us. I don't think it even occurred to me to get a doll that looked more like me. (But, now I do want to get an Asian one!)
I do still have all of them, and they are on a shelf in my bedroom. I played with them for a long time...
Berryblue - September 17, 2004 03:19 PM (GMT)
That is so cute! My mom was basically fighting in a store for two CPKs, one for me and one for my little sister! So, she ended up with one goldenrod type blonde (w/two braids) one and one with brown hair (single pony tail with it gathered in the middle). I had my choice, if I recall correctly, and chose the brown haired one. lol Later though, I got a set of twins with medium brown hair and two braids. I still have those at home, complete and I think I even have their "papers". lol
That is so cool that you still have them Joyce.
Oh and I just created a thread on the bug with the multiple choice polls:
Thread about the Polls situation This problem is expected to be resolved some time before Halloween (when Invisionfree upgrades to the next version) :)

my mom said CPK's were too expensive.. so all I got was a generic one, that was super ugly! She got me one to look like "Annie", it had short red hair, and was wearing a blue onesie. My sister got one with long, blond hair in a frilly dress... (she always got the better toys). everyone brought their CPKs to school (I was in 3rd grade) and constantly told me to bring mine. I finally brought the generic one, and had the teacher put it up on the shelf so none of the kids would see her face... then when reading time came, the teacher took it down and handed it to me, and all the kids made fun of it and how ugly it was and said, "it's not even real!".
LOL, okay, I'm done sharing a bad childhood memory.
But!!! for Christmas my daughter's CPK will look just like her!
Berryblue - September 18, 2004 06:53 PM (GMT)
Oh Cindie!!! That is soooooo sad!! :( I just want to cry hearing that.
I had the same type of generic toy but mine was a Pound Puppy! LOL My aunt made me one. On a good note though, I did end up getting a smaller actual Pound Puppy (but never a big "regular" version of one)
1u11aby1ambie - September 19, 2004 06:05 AM (GMT)
I'm so sorry Cindie! One of my friend's had a generic one and I had some other friends with home-made/hand-made ones with the cloth face.
They didn't want us to bring CPK's to school because apparently, they were getting stolen out of lockers (no locks on the lockers). We did bring them at first and I remember that the teacher had us put them on a table in the classroom until recess.
Oh... some of my friend's had boy CPK's... so they became my CPK's boyfriends! LOL
wonderberry - September 21, 2004 02:19 PM (GMT)
LOL! you guys are too sweet!
I am over it now though.. thank goodness I'm old enough to buy my own now!
berry elvish - September 21, 2004 05:00 PM (GMT)
I'm glad I can buy my own too! :b
Here is a link to the CPK I just got for Taigan and the little one that I might keep for myself!

wonderberry - September 22, 2004 12:32 PM (GMT)
wow Mel, I never realized how small the little CPK actually is!
I saw the CPK in the strawberry overalls at Target last night... but she had blonde hair and blue eyes... not brown w/brown... darn!
Berryblue - September 22, 2004 03:33 PM (GMT)
AWwwww! I have yet to see the little CPKs! I love the overalls on the larger one.
I actually saw some non-ethnic ones last night too. They didn't have the greatest of outfits though IMO. But... one looked like me, had the EXACT shade of blue as my eyes and the same hair! LOL There was no way I could buy (at least not right now). They are $40 cdn and I need a new wardrobe. lol OHhhhh well!! I think if I saw a little one like that I would get it though. lol
Congrats on the new "babies" Melanie!! Woohoo! They are so cute!! :D
berry elvish - September 22, 2004 04:57 PM (GMT)
Well, I will probably give the CPK to Taigan for Christmas since I bought it to look like her. :P And the little ones are TRU exclusives...cost is 11.99 usd. I saw them online at amazon for 10.99 usd. I actually bought it because I thought her whole body was soft vinyl and Taig could take her in the bath, but alas her actual body is made of regular cpk material complete with xavier's signature on one cheek of her bum. So, now I'm off to eBay to find one that is all vinyl bodied! :D Oh, yeah, Erin, I don't really care for their outfits either, but when Cindie showed me the strawberry overalls I went hunting! The one I bought is the only one I've seen in that outfit, so I believe it was fate.
I do really like the cpk's that come on a cardboard cabbage...do you know what I'm talking about? They have these really cute asian ones and they have cornsilk hair (I always wanted a cornsilk kid!) and they have really adorable outfits, but they cost about ten bucks more than these newly released ones.

OMG I have never seen them!
And the Asian Cornsilk ones I know I wouldn't be able to resist! LOL
That sounds like one that Joyce should get too :D
I *almost* bought an old redheaded one (that you can pose) at a garage sale last weekend. I don't have any more room, so I didn't. :( I wanted her! LOL

Was a tiny poseable or do you mean it was doll sized? That is what I'm looking for for Taigan, doll sized, all vinyl, maybe poseable...whatever, as long as she can take a bath with her. :D
1u11aby1ambie - September 22, 2004 11:11 PM (GMT)
Oh! Those CPK's are sooo adorable! I love the little asian outfit on Taigan's! I haven't seen the strawberry outfit on any of the dolls yet. I've seen the ones sitting in the paper cabbage leaf... I thought that was cute (I saw it at Toys R Us)... and I saw the anniversary(?) ones there too! I haven't seen any cornsilk Asian ones yet! Maybe I'll be getting myself an Asian CPK for my birthday.
Berryblue - September 23, 2004 01:25 AM (GMT)
OH you have to get one and let us all know when you do Joyce :D
Melanie, the poseable vintage CPK I saw had a cloth body but had wires in it (remember those??) so you could "pose" them. I almost bought her just because she had red hair and two braids (one on each side) :) I never was super thrilled with those wired poseable ones though. I do remember some friends having them when I was little. I forget what they were called exactly. Anyone remember??
berry elvish - September 23, 2004 02:58 AM (GMT)
Hmmm, I don't remember those, Erin. They sound weird though. Yep the ones with the cardboard/paper cabbage leaf are just new cpk's but they don't have yarn hair...it's more like real hair. And instead of coming in a box they sit on an open cabbage. Wish I had a picture! And there were two Asian ones...one in a gorgeous purple dress with lots of lace and one in a ballerina costume.
Asian BallerinaAsian in Purple dressOh, and they cost ten dollars more than the new ones with yarn hair.
Cindie - I saw
this one at TRU this afternoon. Black hair/brown eyes.
I've got CPK crazy!! I think the newer cpk are way cuter than the vintage...I don't like the vintage's nose. <_<
1u11aby1ambie - September 23, 2004 06:55 AM (GMT)
Melanie... you got me looking at the amazon site for CPK's! LOL
I totally adore this one:
asian girl in chinese outfitI think she's a full-sized doll... kind of expensive though... YIKES!
The asian dolls I've seen at Target were wearing this outfit:
floral dress with sweater or this one:
pink dress
wonderberry - September 23, 2004 02:12 PM (GMT)
Melanie! you have to get that CPK for me! I will send you the money! that is the one I want! ooooh man!
Joyce, that Asian one is so cute! That is a lot of money for it... but it is just adorable!
berry elvish - September 23, 2004 02:50 PM (GMT)
Lambie! I really want that Asian one in the Asian Jammies! I didn't see her 'live' at TRU!! That must be one of the big ones, because I saw some big ones in pajamas, only they were kind of dumb and said 'princess' on them or something. I know they have the small ones in the Asian style...and they are Asian too! They are just miniature and I love them. I will probably just get one of those for myself. Will she go with my Inuyasha themed bedroom? LOL I like the pink satin-like dress of that blonde cpk...and I like the sweater on the other outfit. I haven't seen cute outfits like that yet. :D
You've got mail, Cindie.
1u11aby1ambie - September 24, 2004 03:39 AM (GMT)
I love the Asian girl in those Asian jammies! I love her eye mask and pillow with the panda detail too... so cute! She's kind of expensive, so I'm thinking I could get a regular Asian CPK and sew up cute PJ's like that (if I can figure it out)... but that Panda is so cute... I don't know if I could find a cute panda patch to replace that. Or maybe a mini one would be good too! I just want her so badly though!

I added the pic of my fake CPK in the Castle Beyond Goblin City!

. Not at all, but I loved him/her anyway. :P
Mine was a boy with brown hair & eyes, while I'm a blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl.
geatornez82 - October 22, 2005 02:12 AM (GMT)
I actually have several 1980's Cabbage Patch kids, none of which looked at me at the time. We had one that looked a little like my sister (blond hair, blue eyes). We have about four in total (plus two Preemies). One has (as my mom describes) "oatmeal" colored hair and green eyes, another has reddish hair and blue eyes, and actually, the last one DOES look a little like me (brown hair and brown eyes), but she really didn't start resembling me (or I didn't start to resemble her) until 1996, because that was the year I got glasses, and that CPK wears glasses, too.

I had a boy cpk when I was little.I wanted a girl with red hair but my parents didn't get me one.I have blonde hair so maybe I should have gotten one with blonde.I liked my cpk anyway.
Orangedancer - November 27, 2005 07:06 PM (GMT)
Mine was just like me, I got her when I was about 12 by mail order....Brown hair and green (I have hazel) eyes. Anyhow, I was disapointed becuase I wanted one with nice soft yard hair and she turned out to be a crip 'n curl. I still liked her in the long run though. She is the one with the two foront teeth in the upper right of this picture:

Awww... cute!!! Are those all your CPKs now?
I think parents tried to get CPKs which looked like their children for their children, but I think most kids didn't care if they did.
Bren41882 - November 29, 2005 11:31 AM (GMT)
I had 4 CPK's as a child 2 boys and 2 girls none of them looked anything like me lol. And I had a cat koosa he was cute. I love the one in the chinese outfit!

Yep, they are, but I just got a newborn at Wal-Mart today so I will be taking a new group photo tonight ^_^
Edit: Here we go!:)

I love that furry Koosa! Is it a Koosa or a pet? I can't tell. My most esteemed friend, Erin, gave me a Koosa for my birthday this year. I think they are so adorable. :D I really only thought the Koosa's and the Ponies were cute, not the actual CPK so much. But now I'm in love with the new ones. I have to find these newborns you all are talking about! And since I already have my CPK, and 2 cpk babies that look like me and my little Asian cpk baby boy, I think I won't be so picky when I see the newborns. I'll just get a cute one! Er...make that two, I have a three year old daughter who'll want one as well.
