Title: Get Along Gang Stuff
ZipperCat - March 15, 2005 09:17 AM (GMT)
Since I was asked to share a few images of my G.A.G. collection here some items that were flat enough to scan successfully.
STICKLES

All six main characters were available, (you can just make them out, on the card),. AmToy also made Care Bear and (possibly) Popples versions of these.
GET ALONG GANG COMIC.
This ran for 93
weekly issues, most of which had original comic strips and covers by Brit cartoonist Barrie Appleby and contained two or three back up strips, various puzzle/activity pages and readers letters. Many issues came with a free gift taped to the cover, but not, it would seem, this one.

More soon. ^_^

Those Stickles things look neat-o. I've never seen them before.
They would look cute as Strawberry Shortcake dolls, I bet.
They scanned really well, too.

Last year, American greetings Corporation announced that it was relaunching The Get Along Gang.
We at Rumour Control are constantly monitoring the internet and other media sources, for new developments.
What we know already is that a cartoon pilot episode featuring a brand new Get Along Gang is being made, right now, at an undisclosed location.
An insider at American Greetings got in touch and shared some pre-production artwork with us. Take a look at some of it here-
http://s8.invisionfree.com/rainbowland/ind...E=02&f=1&t=2054
When you see the new Gang, don't freak out, please! The originals have not been done away with but what part, if any, they will play in the proceedings remains to be seen. What you see are, almost certainly, a separate but related, (we don't know exactly how, just yet), bunch of characters.
The official G.A.G. website features the Gang just as they were back in the day and is still under construction but a teaser page is already up here .

Btw... Thanks for sharing your cool G.A.G. stuff! :moose Very cool!!!!

:moose Stickles? Wow. Those are pretty neat, I've never heard of them. Thanks for sharing some of your collection. Honestly, I didn't know there were so many gag items made!
Berryblue - March 19, 2005 08:22 PM (GMT)
I should get a pic of the ceramic GAG mug I have. I think it is sooo cute and Woolma is on it too, Joyce! *wink* :D
1u11aby1ambie - March 20, 2005 06:56 AM (GMT)
Wow! That would be great Erin! Woolma is such a cutie!
BTW, Zippercat... I thought of you today when I was at a doll show... I spotted a Dotty mini!!

Your guess is as good as anybody elses.
For those of you who miss her, here is another colouring book cover, this time with Woolma on it. :moose

That link to the new Get Along Gang production art does not seem to be working. Here is one that
does!
1u11aby1ambie - March 21, 2005 06:21 AM (GMT)
Awwww... thanks! I love Woolma on there! I don't know what is going on with the new lamb with the pink hair! Woolma is waaaaay cuter!!!

Someone at American Greetings is a big Foxy Cleopatra fan... ;)
For the new show, the dial marked "Warm and Fuzzy" seems to have been turned down quite a bit, let's hope the one marked "Funny" has been turned up to compensate.
Though I love the old show to bits, it is good to see that the pace is about to be stepped up a little and that the torch will be passed to a new generation instead of being left to flicker and die in the past.
With any luck, there'll be the occasional"tribute", of some sort, to the original characters in the new cartoon, although quite what form it will take is anybody's guess.
Berryblue - March 21, 2005 05:38 PM (GMT)
Very interesting indeed to see the "new" GaG. I am not sure about the new look yet. I would probably have to see it in action to know for sure. So far, the one that looks the best to me is Dottie. *shrug*
I look forward to seeing more :)
Thanks for the links, Zippercat :wave

Yes, Nelvana made a half hour pilot episode "The Adventures Of the Get Along Gang", (also available as a book), and DiC produced 26 10 minute cartoons which were released in 1984. Check out eBay for used videocassettes but beware of bootleg VCD's and DVDs. (No official DVD's have been released, so far, but it can only be a matter of time...:))
Going on the small amount of evidence so far, it looks like American Greetings will be bringing the Gang back
pretty much as they were in the 80's, so far as toys and other merchandising goes. There is now a link on AGC's
Hollie Hobbie Site which uses the original character designs rather than the new ones, as does all the publicity material so far released. (More on
that coming soon..)

1u11aby1ambie - May 6, 2005 09:36 AM (GMT)
I think I remember watching the cartoons! I don't remember too much from back then... all I really remember is that I have a folder from waaaay back then with GAG on it... and it was pink with everyone in the soda shop. LOL... and the only character's name I really recalled was Woolma! I had to be reminded of the rest...

Here is the Get Along Gang "Promo Slick" which appeared at the licensing industry's annual exhibition in New York last year.

Unfortunately, the original image was much too large for Photobucket to handle, so I had to shrink it a bit. Here's all that
teensy weensy writing, reformatted in Super Enlarge-O-Scope [TM], for your comfort and convenience. :
Brief History: The Get Along Gang was created by American Greetings, the creator of the most important character properties of the1980's. The Get Along Gang was first introduced in a television special which debuted in the spring of 1984 and, as a result of its success, was given a coveted Saturday morning cartoon slot on CBS for the next 2 years.
With 28 licensees and a full range of product, the Get Along Gang became a top selling property in publishing and other key categories, generating over $40 million in its first year. As a matter of fact Scholastic, the publishing licensee, sold over 1.5 million books...their most successful character program ever as of 1984!
Bright Future: Why the time is right for the resurgence of the Get Along Gang
Timeless, value based properties are perfect "comfort culture" in our present uncertain times
The Get Along Gang's message of tolerance and cooperation has high appeal for todays teens
A group of unique characters provide opportunuties for distinctive graphics and on-trend slogans
Ready availability of a library of art including comic art, and a new style guide
Retro properties are a hot trend
Get Along Gang collector traffic is huge on the internet. It recently reached 1.3 million hits and is still growing.
The Partnership: The Joester Loria Group and American Greetings, the team that produced the first and biggest of the 1980's retro property relaunches, The Care Bears. Joester Loria brings its brand building expertise and exceptional brand building capabilities to the Get Along Gang program, while American Greetings provides world-class creative support for the property.
Licensing opportunities include: Apparel, footwear, room decor, home textiles, fasion accessories, eyewear, cosmetics & toys.

I remember the cartoon too, but was bigger into Shirt-Tales. But, I can't even remember much about that show! Boy are these little critters cute and I may have to buy a few of the toys when they are released. I need to go read the character bios on the site using Zippercat's link. :D
ZipperCat - September 8, 2005 08:23 AM (GMT)
Here is a "work in progress" shot of of the new G.A.G. cartoon.

More info has also come to light about the studio in charge, which turns out to be
RichCrest Animation in Burbank, California who are handling pre and post production duties, while most of the actual animation was/will be done at their
parent company in Mumbai, India. (Click on "in the pipeline" then "American Greetings". For a closer look, right click the screen, select "Zoom In" then left click and drag the image into view, if necessary.)
A release date has not yet been confirmed but one source tentatively mentioned "Fall 2005", last August.
1u11aby1ambie - September 8, 2005 02:15 PM (GMT)
Oh hey! I like that!!! I think they did a good job with the setting... it is very reminiscent of the old G.A.G soda shop! Is it going to be 3D animated like that? LOL... now I'm think how cute of a playset that would make!!!

Yes, it will be.
This is certainly going to look good, even if it turns out to have flaws in other areas. Some people have a huge problem with CGI 'toons, but there's no earthly reason why the Get Along Gang , new style or original, should stay flat!
ZipperCat - September 18, 2005 01:25 PM (GMT)
1u11aby1ambie - September 19, 2005 03:03 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the pics!!!! I love looking at the info! I didn't realize that Portia was a Porcupine! LOL
ZipperCat - September 23, 2005 03:26 PM (GMT)
Our contact at American Greetings has been in touch again. He sent us a showreel of sorts for the new Get Along Gang pilot episodes which adds a few more pieces to a still unfinished puzzle.
Get ready to meet-
Mogo

Mayfield

Hatch

Domino

and Regan

What can they all be looking at?

(Probably the picture of those
strange looking characters on the opposite wall...)
1u11aby1ambie - September 23, 2005 07:48 PM (GMT)
Awwww... cute! I like most of them, except Mayfield! Her hair looks odd... like a receding hairline with a big poof at the end. The others look good though!

Mmm, there does seem to be something
not of this earth about her...
The only character I had any sort of problem with was Mogo but the final render is a
big improvement on the initial preview art. In fact all of them have been
considerably softened down and made more appealing generally, e.g. those
eyes no longer have that strange dead look about them, (Look at the pic of Hatch in Munk's Cafe to see what I mean.), the lights are
on now and there's
definitely someone at home. ;)
The clincher for me was something that you may have noticed behind Regan in the top right hand corner. YES!- it's
them, they're part of the mix too! It wasn't obvious at first, but going through the movie frame by frame revealed the glorious truth. :party
AGC could
so have gone and done a "Strawberry Shortcake" on us and made "unpersons" of the original Gang but praise be, they haven't. Just how much involvement they have in this is still under wraps. If it's just that piccie, I'll be happy. If on the other hand, there's rather more going on in that little scrap of paper than meets the eye...
wonderberry - September 25, 2005 01:36 PM (GMT)
hey, I just noticed this post....
I love all your GAG pictures! Great stuff!! I like Portia! She's so cute!
I like the setting for the new GAG, but I like the way the old characters look better! I think they're cuter the way they were.
BTW zippercat, I love the little GAG group picture on your signature! that's so cute!
ZipperCat - September 25, 2005 03:08 PM (GMT)
More vidcaps...
INCOMING!

Another happy landing.

"The snack you
can eat between meals without ruining your appetite!"

A breath of fresh air.

"Cat-O-Dent, for sparkling pearly whites! (Now in new
anchovy and caviar flavour!)"

See that glow...
Oooh la la! Who can this be?

OK lads, you can put your tongues
back in now...
wonderberry - September 25, 2005 04:39 PM (GMT)

If the G.A.G. relaunch does
very well indeed, there might just be a
stonking video game to be made from either the new characters or the old and their particular "universes". (Perhaps even both!)
This has "Nintendo" written into it at the genetic level, though I'd support any platform that supported a Get Along Gang Gang game worthy of the title. If any such thing appears on the Gamecube, it's likely to be very late in the day but that's usually when all the really
good games turn up, as developers learn how to exploit the hardware's abilities.
It was certainly true of the N64, compare "Mario 64" with "Conker's Bad Fur Day" or "Banjo Kazooie" and you'd be forgiven for thinking that they were made for different platforms entirely. "Goldeneye" was excellent but was easily topped by "Perfect Dark" 3 years later. Speaking of which, look again at "M6", (the hologram lady), is it just me or does she look
kind of familiar?
geatornez82 - October 22, 2005 02:02 AM (GMT)
It should be an interesting go around, but I'm not exactly too sure what to make of the character designs. Personally, I think the original gang members were cuter.

That's an affirmative but what they lack in the "cute n' cuddly" department they might well make up for with a strange and wonderful appeal of their own. It bears repeating that despite appearances, these little scamps are
not the mangled remains of the originals but a set of
new additions to the GAG family tree.
Hopefully, the urban stylee Gang will spark renewed interest in the Original which IMO is far from a spent force.
Already, one
fansite in particular ,that
was just about ticking over has seen a surge of new activity... :D
ZipperCat - November 13, 2005 11:00 AM (GMT)
Earlier this year
Jerry Leigh Entertainment Aparrel produced three retro style G.A.G. tee shirts, one of which you can see below. (eBay photo)

Here's a closer look.

The other designs were:
Bingo "Bet it All" Beaver, running.
(slogan-"Player")
Dotty Dog, doing ribbon gymnastics.
(Slogan-"Twisted")
AFAIK the above have only ever been available on eBay.
Has anyone here seen them and the three others, made by
Junk Food in 2004, elsewhere? i.e. Hot Topic, Claire's Accessories etc. (The actual stores, not just online.) H.T.
did have the Junk Food shirts on their website, but not any longer.
RainbowBriteRox81 - November 15, 2005 03:46 AM (GMT)
I haven't seen them in H.T., but I will keep an eye out for them. ;)
1u11aby1ambie - November 15, 2005 11:22 AM (GMT)
I haven't seen any of those. I think there is something "wrong" with our Hot Topic. I never see 80s character stuff in there!
1u11aby1ambie - April 18, 2007 07:33 AM (GMT)
ZipperCat - April 21, 2007 09:35 AM (GMT)
I put that up a while back. This is the movie sent to us by American Greetings in 2005. Some pre-production art for the same show can be seen
here, (centre right column) along with some of the artist's other work.
Project Get Along's current status could best be described as "in limbo", judging by
the apparent amount of activity surrounding it. AG has hinted that the G.A.G. may still have a future and a
trademark search seems to support this, though it could well be very different from the one we were expecting.
