Title: Fixing Up Old My Little Ponies**PIC ADDED**
Description: Re-pinking their faded hair!

Berryblue - September 13, 2004 02:07 AM (GMT)
Ah! I am just feeling happy today because I was able to restore some My Little Ponies who originally had pink hair from to a faded white to a PINK again!! All I did was use Rose Pink RIT dye and just dipped their hair in quickly and rinsed, repeating until I reached the desired shade. I will be posting some pics of a faded haired Sundae Best pony, Coco Berry and then adding her "after" shot with the new "re-pinked" hair :)
Just wanted to share! I am very happy with the outcome. Look for my pics coming soon

Wow Erin! You're so creative! I can't wait to see the before and after shots! :)

You are a master at re-dying toys! :D I can't wait to see the results. I think I have one pair of shoes (ssc) that need re-dying, so I haven't attempted such a feat.

Oh you are too kind!
I am still so excited about it. lol It is kind of funny...
If only our stupid digital cam would work right now. I am dying to post. I could probably get a before one up for you and then an after once I get the cam working again. lol

BTW, what shoes do you have to re-dye, Melanie?

Heehee...I love dying stuff (a little too much) ^_^

:o (pretend that's the eyes popping out of head smiley...AH-OO-ga!)

That is just fantastic, Erin. She looks new again! Excellent job. :D

Uhm, I'm pretty sure they are AT PP shoes. I'm trying to remove some vds first with my Removez-It. Then I had planned to ask you about colors of rit dye and try to figure out which color would work best. Also...I'm not even sure what color the shoes are supposed to be cuz they are so junked out! And I did leave them in super concentrated grape Kool-Aid over night when I first got them. They took on a tiny bit of color, not significant, and they smelled yummy.

Thanks!! I was amazed at how quickly pony hair absorbs the dye because I bought some synthetic hair that are in the craft section at WM, and it wouldn't absorb the dye (like AT ALL!). I would dip it in and rinse and the dye would wash out so I wasn't expecting it to work SO well. So, in case you were ever wondering...it works great! lol

And about your Almond Tea Party Pleaser shoes...
LOL! I bet they did smell yummy! LOL!!

I will have to look at the colors again but I bet a lavendar type color would work great.

I would put about a half tsp of the powdered dye into an old plastic container (like a margarine/cool whip type- I keep old ones just for my projects) and run the tap and let the water get as hot as possible, then fill the container about halfway (maybe a little less than half).

I keep a plastic spoon just for projects too and stir with that.

Then, try one shoe at a time, putting it on the spoon and lowering it into the dye (letting it touch everything), then lift quickly.

*This dye absorbs into the shoes VERY quickly and I wasn't aware of that the first time I tried it. I ended up with some bright tangerine shoes that are on a Brazilian SSC doll now. lol

So, if you quickly dip and then check out the color, and continue dipping until they are the desired shade, it should work out nicely. You could even try two at a time so they go in exactly the same amount of time but you'd have to be sure that you lift them BOTH out at the same exact time.

*Also, it is okay if the shoes are a little darker than you wanted. Sometimes the dye fades a bit.

Thanks Adline and Cindie!!
I just *love* dying things!! LOL If you ever have a MLP with faded pink hair just get some RIT (rose) dye and color away!

I have also used Rit to dye ponies and pony hair. It works great. I add about a tablespoon of salt per 5 or 6 cups of water just in case. I bought a lot of junky ponies from ebay and one was dyed this nice cinnamon colour and the hair was dyed also. But every time I tough it I get brown dye on my hands. It's terrible...I have rinsed a ton of times but it still happens. I do not know what type of dye was used, but I know adding salt helps whan you are dying fabric and it doesn't hurt the hair at all.
Now, I never thought of using Kool aid! Yummy.

Wow that cinnamon color sounds really, really pretty :)

Thanks for adding those to the list. It's good to hear what works. If anyone thinks of any others, feel free to post them here too :D

Well if turnips and cabbage work, how about beets?!
I never tried it, but the water turns everything purple!
