Title: Vintage Vs New Strawberry Shortcake Dolls Smells

What's the difference for the smell of a vintage or new Strawberry Shortcake doll?. :ssc

I'm berry curious. :bbm

unfortunately--it's hard to explain unless you have/have had both...

That is so true.
The vintage are different in that many of us had them as kids and memories were created which their scent is associated with. I remember loving Angel Cake's scent as a kid and hating Crepe Suzette's for some reason!
I also can remember loving Mint Tulip's scent, especially Marsh Mallard's. I can even remember wanting to bite the "marshmallow" looking pom-pom on his hat! :ha :ha Mmmmm.... yummy! :mmm

I always think of SS dolls as having a cotton candy fluffy scent to them. Even Strawberry's strawberry scent was whip creamish.

The new dolls, Strawberry in particular, smell a lot like what they are supposed to. So Strawberry Shortcake smells just like a real strawberry...sort of. And Ginger Snap smells like cinnimon and ginger combined. Angel Cake smells most like a vintage doll, but that is because she smells so sweet, like vanilla cake.

My daughter thinks that Ginger Snap smells bad!
I agree with the "creamy" description of the scent. And back then there were a lot more choices...I always loved Strawberry Shortcake and Raspberry Tart's smell the best.
I am a strawberry fanatic...not just SSC. My kitchen is a strawberry paradise.

RollChan, do you have any SSC dolls? I think the new ones have a hole in the plastic so you can smell them in the store. Check them out.

Berryblue - February 10, 2005 07:25 PM (GMT)
That is true! The new SSC does smell like "strawberry" but like a candy-like strawberry! She always reminds me of the vintage 80s SSC cereal and since that cereal was a lot like Crunch Berry cereal, I would say that the new SSC smells like Crunch Berry tastes :ha

In my opinion, (I haven't seen the newest SSC characters yet so I don't know how they smell) but I love Blueberry's scent the best out of the new dolls :)
Although...Orange smells yummmmy too. lol
I have heard, though, that OB's scents fades more quickly than most others. :(

Seaberry doesn't smell like a fruit, but she smells pretty good. I think it is like "sea breeze"... makes make think of men's shaving cream or deordorant. :ha

Seaberry smells exactly like this bath salt I used to have as a child. I mean exactly! So that is nostalgic for me.

I never really owned any Strawberry Shortcake dolls since I was born in 1985 and the toyline ended. But I own a vintage Butter Cookie I bought at a Flea Market back in 1996-1997,but the problem was that I couldn't really smell her because she was in a dusty building setting,so she smelled like dust which is berry gross. :eww

But I do know that the new dolls have a hole in the box so you could smell it. ^_^

:elf Herself the Elf is berry cute.

I only had Lemon Meringue as a child, so I only remember sniffing that! But I do know that the new Strawberry doesn't smell like the old.

Erin... I love Captain Crunch - crunch berries! I remember I loved the SSC cereal... and after they discontinued it, the closest thing I ate was a bowl of crunch berries (yes, I would pick out all the berries and eat a bowl of them all by themselves!) :mmm

purplestar - February 11, 2005 05:05 PM (GMT)
You must have drove your mom nuts...picking out the crunchberries only!!!

I don't remember SSC cereal. I missed out on that, I guess.

Berryblue - February 11, 2005 07:57 PM (GMT)
OMG Joyce, you used to eat a bowl of "berries" in Crunch Berry cereal?! :ha
Would your brother be stuck with the regular Cap 'n Crunch that you left behind or would you just toss it? LOL I do know that my mom probably would've hated it if I did that! :ha

And hmmm, I think that vintage Strawberry herself smelled more like a strawberry powder as opposed to the new SSC's strawberry candy scent :)

And purplestar, you did miss out on that cereal! I used to beg my mom for it more than any other.

I can remember getting the Rainbow Brite cereal too. My little sister especially loved that. lol

I can't remember whether or not they ever came out with a CPK cereal but I wouldn't be surprised. They had so many character cereals and things. Anyone know? I'm just curious...lol

Actually, I liked regular cap'n crunch too... and my brother would actually HELP me pick out all the crunch berries! He liked the Strawberry Shortcake cereal too... so we'd eat all the capt crunch regular and have crunch berries at the end! Having all the berries was just like having SSC cereal... especially since they were like the same color and shape. And Cap'n crunch once made a cereal called "oops all berries"... but they were multi-flavored/colored berries at that time, and not just the strawberry ones.

Yes, they made Cabbage Patch cereal!!!! I loved that cereal too. I remember the cereal was shaped like the logo. It was lightly sweet... I liked it plain without milk as a snack. And I SAVED all the boxes!!!! But I think my mom threw them out at some point. :hksad The box fronts have CPK kid photos doing various things and the back was like games. I had about 6 boxes of this cereal... they came with stickers inside the box (those ones that I showed Cindie of the CPK villians)... and I have 6 of those stickers.

I'm thinking of re-scenting any old 80's SSC dolls I collect who don't have any scent left with fruit scented prefume:)

Berryblue - April 18, 2005 04:51 PM (GMT)
Getting back to this topic...lol
OMG Joyce...you SAVED all the boxes?! WOW! It is too bad your mom threw them out. How neat!

And Orangedancer, that's a good idea about rescenting your dolls. Let us know how it turns out if you choose to do so! :wave

I had them in the hall closet. I remember going to look for them one day and they weren't there any more. So, I'm sure my mom threw them out. I remember that I liked how they had the pictures of CPKs on the front and the games on the back!

LOL... So you know how much I liked CPKs even then!!! I even had my original CPK doll boxes in the basement... but our basement flooded and all the boxes were ruined! :hksad
