Title: Today's Cartoons Vs 80s Cartoons

RollChan1985 - January 22, 2005 04:40 PM (GMT)
What do you ppl think of today's cartoons?.I think they are not as good like in the 80s/early 90s.I know around 1995 cartoons were starting to go downhill with
Power Ranger clones,Barney clones, and the worst Princess Gweniveire and the Jewel Rider. It was a Sailor Moon rip-off that annoyed me.

I also can't believe they don't show the classic cartoons like old Disney,Looney Tunes.Back in the 80s,those classic cartoons were reruns for a new generation.
Even the Pink Panther is not on anymore either.I asked my little cousin Jacob if he knew what the Flintstones was and he didn't know what I was talking about.

I miss the days of waking up on a Saturday morning at 6 am being in my pajamas watching Megaman and eating my cereal and renting Maple Town and Strawberry Shortcake movies at my local video store. :(

Today's cartoons are so lame.It just makes me want to cry about modern childrens
TV.Give me My Little Pony with Transformers anyday instead of Spongebob or
the 100th Pokemon clone.

The thing I don't get about 90s and today's children's TV is Power Rangers,Barney,
Teletubbies,Pokemon,Rugrats,Spongebob etc is that they have been running for a long long time and no one really cares about them, cept for little kids.As the good 80s cartoons (My Little Pony,Transformers,Sonic the Hedgehog etc) they end up being replaced with lame stuff. :hksad

The only good cartoons I'd watch is alot of Adult Swim (my favorite),Fairly
Oddparents (funny show),and mainly educationial channels like Animal Planet,
History or PBS.Better than the sleaze and junk out there today. :cheesecake

Well, there are some good new cartoons too but I do get what you are saying.
I do like shows like Spongebob and Rugrats but the newer cartoons that I like are few and far between. I do absolutely adore Winx Club that airs on Fox and reminds me a lot of the older style cartoons that we had when we were young. For instance, each character has a unique personality and look. It seems that they are deeper than most characters out there.

I really think that some of the newest shows that are coming out are becoming better that say the mid 90s had. I know there are other members here that like some new cartoons. Melanie! *ahem* lol

And I am happy to say that Teletoon in Canada airs both Flintstones and Jetsons back to back every day. :hemanwink So, at least kids will know them! That is really sad to hear that kids don't know who those classic characters are.

I say, be patient. Some channels are starting to bring back some of the "oldies but goodies".

Well, ever since I went off to college, I haven't really watched tv regularly or cartoons, so I guess I wouldn't know. I have a tv now, but I tend to watch stuff I already know... like Scooby Doo. But, the stuff that attracts me more is the anime type of cartoon... at least I notice I tend to pause on those shows when flipping through the channels!

As a side note, my friend saw "Meet Strawberry Shortcake" on cable :ssc ... and she was asking me if I knew they had a new SSC cartoon... and I was like "you mean the movie?" And she was like, "no, a cartoon... there were a bunch of different episodes on like 3-4 days in a row." I was like are you sure it wasn't the movie? Then she said one was called Meet SSC. So, I said it was the movie!!

I did love cartoons in the 80's, I mean, I LOVED them, but I think a lot of new cartoons are really very good. For example the new MOTU...is way better in my opinion than the old one. Also, the transformers is good too. Invader Sim is really funny and I feel I never get to watch it enough. I think the Fairly Odd Parents is cool too. Thundercats, my favorite 80's cartoon, doesn't stand up to today's standards of cartoons either. Teen Titans, X-Men Evolution, Super Friends...all great! I'm not big on Spongebob or Ren and Stimpy, though I know lots of people are, I just can't stand the sound of it or the grossness of R&S. I am really into Adult Swim...but those are cartoons for us children of the 80's so we are bound to love them, eh?

I was also forced to watch cartoons that I hated when I was a kid: Popeye! I hated it, but my brother liked it. G.I. Joe my brother also loved, I preferred m.a.s.k.

Oh, and I meant to say that I rarely watch cartoons anymore!

LOL
I totally forgot about MOTU! That IS a great cartoon, IMO :D

I don't watch cartoons too much either. The top two are more "adult" -
King of the Hill (I LOVE it!) and Family Guy. Oh and the Simpsons are good but they've been on forever so they aren't really considered new. lol

LOL Erin! My husband was always watching The Family Guy, and I thought it was so crude, I'd always beg him to change the channel... now I find myself laughing and even watching it when he's not home! So, I like it too!! and I watch King of the Hill.. I think Boomhower (sp?) is funny. And I like the Simpsons... but like you said, they've been around since I was a kid.
I don't really watch "kid" cartoons anymore... except the Winx. I like all the animated Disney movies.

I agee. most of todays cartoon are lame. <_< pokemon, digimon, yugi,I just don't get them. Everything now is japanese anime.I guess it's because they are cheaper to make :P .I'm glad I have cartoon network that way my kids can have real cartoons to watch.I do love family guy.My 9mth old likes stewie. She stops what she's doing when she hears his voice. It's so cute. I know its rude but I also like south park  .Also I like drawn together.I can't help but laugh at them. :D

Me too, I'm big into grown up cartoons. I LOVE Drawn Together...it is so super funny, but definitely adult humor. Love Family Guy and Futurama and Inuyasha! I am going to rent Wolf's Rain on dvd...I can't stay up late enough to watch it. And I still haven't got the vcr able to record Winx Club! But it is an interesting cartoon, with a real story line...not at all about card games or whatever yugi-oh is about.

hmm..I don't really like the new cartoons--I know cartoon network has smurfs and the snorks on-I catch them once in a blue moon

Bob likes south park & hank hill -king of the hill, whatever, lol

I can stand to watch it--but I usually just flip the channels....

Berryblue - January 24, 2005 05:24 PM (GMT)
Wildfire, that is so funny that your 9 mos. old likes Stewie! I seriously LOL at that! You better watch your back! LOL!!
I was just thinking about Stewie last night when I was watching Malcolm in the Middle ( I am not sure if anyone else caught it) but the baby on that was nearly KILLED the mother (Lois). LOL
Futurama is really good too.
I have never seen or heard of Drawn Together. I am betting that they don't air it here. :(
And Winx Club really is good! lol I have to say it again, I know! LOL I just love the way they characters have their own clothing/style and theme. :D
The witches are TOO cool. They crack me up whenever they are on screen :smurfywink
