Title: Some Of My Custom Ponies

purplestar - January 10, 2005 03:11 PM (GMT)
I started to make custom MLP to sell, but usually I end up keeping them! I just don't really feel like making 2 the same and I like them too much to sell.
I have a few for sale on ebay, but the ones I'm going to try to put pics of here are a few of my keepers.
I made a set of Horror Ponies. Lets see if this worked!

purplestar - January 10, 2005 03:28 PM (GMT)
The green one is Monster...I have a huge pet peeve about Frankenstein. That is the doctor's name, the monster never had a name. The white one is Rags, a mummy. The grey one is Howl, a werewolf. Finally the black one is Mina, a vampire. It's hard to see the details and I have no idea how to add more than one picture, so I can't take individual close ups. I'm thinking about adding a witch and a skeleton or something. Maybe closer to Halloween.

I'm making a Hellboy pony (2 actually)...a lady is sewing me 2 trenchcoats so I can sell one if it turns out like I hope. Awesome movie.

You see my problem...I make ponies that are inspired by things I really like so I want to keep them. My husband spent a lot on all these old ponies and supplies for me because I was going to make some money! OOPS. Oh, well...he'l see how I feel soon enough. He got me to repaint a McFarlane football player and if we keep that up, he will want to keep all the custom ones, I'm sure. We are way too into collecting. Do they have a 12 step program for this behaviour? Nevermind. I'm not ready to quit.

LOL!! You are cracking me up! I know what you mean about fixing/customizing toys and not wanting to sell them! lol

It is so cool that so many different and unique things inspire your customs. I just love the idea of having Horror type ponies. I just love Living Dead dolls so having this "line" of customs is A LOT like them except they are MLPs! Too cool!

I think my favorite one is Mina the Vampire! I just love Halloween themed things so this is right up my alley, girl! :D

Great job! Post more pics whenever you want *wink wink*

wonderberry - January 10, 2005 05:36 PM (GMT)
great job! I like Mina too!... and I also am a big fan of Living Dead Dolls... so I thought these were really cool!

purplestar - January 10, 2005 05:44 PM (GMT)
I looked up the Living Dead Dolls...those are wild. If I start collecting those I will have to hide them from my daughter. She will be terrified. They all seem to remind me of the bad girl from The Ring. She terrifies me. In fact she is the only scary thing that I am afraid of! Anyways, I have not seen them anywhere but we do have a Spencers...I think they are available there. I may just have to edit my birthday list.

Berryblue - January 10, 2005 09:02 PM (GMT)
LOL! One doll that I have is from Series 7 (7 Deadly Sins). I have "Greed"
She is a little more tame than some others. Some of my favorites are:
Cookie (the girl scout), Kitty (the cheerleader, Inferno (who looks like she is from heck), and Lulu (the rollerskater) :)

wonderberry - January 11, 2005 04:42 PM (GMT)
wow, I haven't seen Cookie! what series is she? I just got the Lost from series 8, and I really love her! now, she REALLY looks like the chick from The Ring... which by the way... did you see they're doing a The Ring 2???

Berryblue - January 11, 2005 05:21 PM (GMT)
I DID see that they are making a sequel! I look forward to seeing if this one is even scarier.

I will have to look up Series 8. I haven't gotten any of the new series yet so I will have to see!

Cookie was a Spencer's exclusive from the first or second series (I think it was 1st). She's one that I would love to get someday.

Also, Jinx and Hellcat are cool. They are in Series 6 (the one were the dolls come with pets) :D

berry elvish - January 11, 2005 07:10 PM (GMT)
I really like your custom ponies! What do you paint them with...acrylic paints? NICE JOB! And very unique to create ponies with a horror theme. :count

1u11aby1ambie - January 11, 2005 07:25 PM (GMT)
Oh wow! Great job on the ponies!

I know how you feel about customizing and then not wanting to sell. It's like you spent all this effort and made something you love, it's so hard to sell that! And then you're not even sure if the buyer would appreciate it as much as you do! It's a lot easier to make something with a particular person in mind, or from a request, IMO.

purplestar - January 13, 2005 12:10 AM (GMT)
I use the acrylic craft paint that you can get at Wal-Mart. I also use Testors model paint for some small details. Occasionally I use Rit dye. I also look everywhere for bits and pieces to use for embelleshment. It really a fun hobby. I got an awesome re-rooting tool from the My Little Pony trading post , it makes the job super easy. I have made a ton more and sold 6 so far.
About "The Ring" movie...I am going to post my true horror story in the general discussion board. It's kinda long and totally unrelated to ponies. :o

wonderberry - January 13, 2005 04:46 PM (GMT)
I finally added my pics of LDDs on my website... but this one is The Lost... she's my favorite I think... cause she reminds me of the chick on The Ring so much

oh, and I do have to hide them from my daughter! I know they would scare her. She's dying to see what they look like, but I keep the coffins closed! :P

wonderberry - January 13, 2005 04:49 PM (GMT)
oh, and sorry my picture is so dark! The flash was just too bright, and it was already late evening, so I couldn't get it light enough for the picture to come out good. But her hair is just like The Ring chick's hair... long, straight, stringy, and black! :ph43r:

Berryblue - January 14, 2005 03:39 AM (GMT)
Very cool! I think she is definitely the coolest out of the newest series. (I checked out series 8 yesterday after seeing your post here...lol)

BTW:I unseal my coffins (not taking the doll itself out) but leave them in the "box" to display. With the minis, I completely take them out of the coffins to hold them but keep them in their "coffins" to display. :)

cool customs.I like the black one :P :darth

purplestar - February 1, 2005 12:50 AM (GMT)
Seems that Mina is the favourite!
The white one is a mummy...I tore up strips of gauze and glued them all over her. And gave her a very sparse tail and mane...she's really old y'know!
Here's one that I sold...her name is Academy. She's a movie star B)

Shellberry Shortcake - February 1, 2005 12:58 AM (GMT)
omg!! Academy is SOO PRETTY!!!!

very nice--

I've been working on a custom pony for like a year now--I don't feel like finishing him though....he's about..90% done....

just gotta get my butt moving here, lol

Berryblue - February 2, 2005 12:05 AM (GMT)
Awesome! Academy looks great. You did a very good job on "her" :D
And Shell, get your butt in gear! Your almost done! I wanna see! LOL :P

1u11aby1ambie - February 2, 2005 11:40 PM (GMT)
Academy is gorgeous!! Looks just like a movie star pony should be!!

purplestar - February 3, 2005 05:22 PM (GMT)
Thank you very much.
This next one is my namesake, Purplestar.

1u11aby1ambie - February 3, 2005 09:58 PM (GMT)
Wow!!! That is sooo pretty! I love that purple! What kind of paint are you using on them to make them so shiny?? I love it!!

purplestar - February 3, 2005 10:50 PM (GMT)
I use the little bottles of acrylic craft paint that you can get at walmart for around $1.29. They have a lot of metallic colours. Then I use a clear topcoat with a gloss finish. Some of the shine here is from glare! ;)
The painting is the fun part as long as I have an idea.

Shellberry Shortcake - February 7, 2005 09:34 PM (GMT)
ohh! I love her--she is very pretty!!

I'll have to post a pic of my custom pony....

;)

Purple star is very pretty! I love painting too. :D

purplestar - February 9, 2005 03:20 PM (GMT)
I sold one on ebay that was similar to this, except it was a pegasus pony and I called her LITA...can anyone guess why? C'mon 80's fans...take a guess.

berry elvish - February 9, 2005 06:22 PM (GMT)
Hmmm, the only Lita I know is Lita Ford, and I doubt you're referring to her. LOL What does it signify?? :yoda

purplestar - February 9, 2005 08:43 PM (GMT)
Of course it's Lita Ford! Why would you doubt that? Its a rock n roll pony and I like about 2 of her songs! I think she has the foulest mouth I've ever heard, though!
