Title: Ring Pops
Description: do you remember them?

1u11aby1ambie - January 1, 2005 07:01 AM (GMT)
I was out today and found a Hello Kitty ring pop! Do you remember these? The one I found has a Kitty instead of the "diamond" but I thought it was great they made a Kitty version!

wonderberry - January 1, 2005 07:46 AM (GMT)
Hey Joyce... it says you posted at 2:01am, and it's only 12:43am here! you must've hit the new year before me. I fell asleep, but Sean woke me up with 7 minutes to go... so I didn't completely miss it.

Anyways, YES!!! I love Ring Pops!! They actually still sell the original ones here at Target. My daughter always wants them. I always loved those as a kid!!! I think they were my favorite candy... along with Fun Dips, which they also still sell... oh, and candy cigarettes that you blow into and the powder comes out the end? My mother used to get mad when I had those. I've never seen a kitty ring pop though! That sounds cool! I'll have to check out our Sanrio store... that would have made a great stocking stuffer.

berry elvish - January 1, 2005 11:14 PM (GMT)
I was never really into jewelry candy, but I absolutely do remember them. My middle child will always ask for things like that. He loves novelty candies. I've never seen the Hello Kitty one. Joyce, did you see the cute little HK nail polish (christmas) gift set at Target? It's on clearance for $2.50 at mine. :D

Berryblue - January 4, 2005 01:12 AM (GMT)
OMG HK ring pops! lol That is great! I have never seen them either! How cool.

*off topicI saw two lambie things today that reminded me of you, Joyce! One...HK valentines and the other... a t-shirt at WM that had three or four lambs arguing with each other and the shirt said something like (I'm) "Be-ewe-tiful!" LOL LOL*

I always used to love wax lips when I was little (God only knows why!lol-they taste horrid!lol) Candy necklaces were always a big hit too.
I DO remember those candy bubble gum cigarettes that had the powder in them to puff out! lol It was ingenious of the companies to actually use real cigarette logos on them, huh? lol Do you also remember the other candy cigarettes - the ones that were white hard minty type candy sticks??

wonderberry - January 4, 2005 02:40 PM (GMT)
LOL wax lips!!! Those used to make me gag something awful, but I still loved them and wanted them all the time too! hahaha... what do you think the attraction was to those? too funny... I still love candy necklaces, and it's weird to read this, cause I had some stupid dream last night that I went to a store, and was buying up all their candy necklaces! LOL

I don't remember the other candy cigarettes though. hmm... were they kinda like a candy cane?

Berryblue - January 5, 2005 07:16 PM (GMT)
The other candy cigarette are thin and chalky (all white in color too). They still make them here. I should pick up a box for you. lol lol

LOL @ your candy necklace dream!!! LOL!!! At least you weren't buying up wax lips!! LOL We also had wax "fangs" too! Did you ever have those? Those were even BETTER than wax lips because we could be vampires! lol I wonder why we loved them so much too being that they really tasted awful! I guess it was the novelty of actually being able to "disguise" ourselves and eat....errr...chew it too! LOL!!

purplestar - January 16, 2005 05:34 AM (GMT)
I remember the white chalky cigarettes...around here they were Popeye cigarettes. I don't recall popeye with a cig, but hey, that's who was on the box.
Ring pops are yummy. I've never seen a Hello Kitty one. Fun dips...also yummy. My big thing was black balls and fire balls. They were jawbreakers. The black ones were normal (but they made your mouth turn black!), the fireballs were a really hot flavour, like a cinnimon.
I am still a candy lover. Twizzlers pull n peel are a fave right now. And anything sour but just a few or my tongue burns.
At least now I can have candy WHENEVER I WANT!!!! :D

Berryblue - January 17, 2005 04:06 AM (GMT)
LOL! I used to always have fireballs. I think they still make them. They are made by Ferrara Pan and my Grandfather used to sell all those types of candies at his corner store. Man, I think I got my fill of penny candies. It was every kid's dream! LOL

And they still make those chalky "cigarette" Popeye candies. I am going to have to buy some and take pics for you all. lol I just saw some the other day. And yeppers! Popeye is gracing the box front for reasons unknown! LOL

Shellberry Shortcake - January 23, 2005 11:31 PM (GMT)
omg-I love the sour apple and strawberry ring pops....

mmmm

I bet the hello kitty one is cute

anyone remember Fruit faces?

faces on a stick of candy you can break apart? mmm I used to love those

Berryblue - January 24, 2005 05:16 PM (GMT)
The name sounds familiar! Argh! I wish I could remember!! lol

Anyone like candy buttons? How about those things called wax nips or just nips? They were wax shaped bottles with a sweet liquid inside. You'd bite the top off and drink them? LOL Man, I used to love them!

Shellberry Shortcake - January 24, 2005 08:17 PM (GMT)
no--these were like long hard 'sticks' of candy-sectioned off into 4 faces
there was grape orange and cherry --they were packed in a small thin box

....maybe I can find a pic somewhere..

Berryblue - January 24, 2005 11:01 PM (GMT)
I would surely love to see one! It sounds familiar! lol

purplestar - January 24, 2005 11:25 PM (GMT)
I just came home with a bag of 10 ringpops for $2.49. That's a deal. Now I have to fight with Cassie for the good flavours! At least there are 2 of each....and they are all yummy.
Never heard of fruit faces. Sounds tasty, though. How about the garbage pail candy? They still have that available. Eating candy trash. MMMM. Then there were bottlecaps, rootbeer was the best. Kinda like sweetarts, only ridgy along the edge.
I think I said it before but it is worth repeating...it's awesome to be grown up and get candy whenever you want. :P

wildfire - January 25, 2005 12:19 AM (GMT)
I've had the ring pops and the wax bottle things but have never heard of the face candy.I do agree it is cool to be an adult and eat candy when ever you want.

Berryblue - January 25, 2005 04:53 PM (GMT)
LOL I remember the garbage pail candy! LOL They still sell it here. The irony is thick...

I also used to love bottle caps! And I do agree that rootbeer was the best flavor! lol Bottle caps were made by Willy Wonka I think. They also made Runts too. I always LOVE them because they were shaped like what they tasted like! What fun! lol

Shellberry Shortcake - January 25, 2005 05:52 PM (GMT)
I remember the garbage pail candy--I've searched and searched the web for fruit faces info but couldn't find any <_<
I have to check the penny candy store next time I go to my parents house...they still sell a lot of that stuff...

Berryblue - January 25, 2005 06:01 PM (GMT)
OMG if you see any cool candies, pick them up and take a pic to show us :D

1u11aby1ambie - January 25, 2005 07:39 PM (GMT)
I remember bottle caps!! I loved those! And the wax bottles, button candy. I don't remember fruit faces though. My elementary school had a candy store and every class got to go once a week. I remember buying candy sticks! I know they still sell Runts, candy buttons...

Does anyone remember Razzles... they were like a sweettart type candy but if you chew them they turn into gum? I kept some kind of coupon for free Razzles (no expiration date) for years... and I guess I never saw them sold again!

I love candy! I have no resistance when I'm in the asian grocery store and I see a new kind of Hello Kitty candy!! I *have* to buy it and try it!

Shellberry Shortcake - January 25, 2005 07:43 PM (GMT)
Erin--I sure will!
omg--I can pick some extras up and ship them off

& I LOVE RAZZLES!!!! They never lasted to gum though for me--I used to chew them up and swallow them.lol

There is a stand at the auction/flea mart that still sells those by the boxful!

(& pumpkin seeds in the red bags.....mmmmmmm)

wonderberry - January 26, 2005 02:26 PM (GMT)
wow, this topic really took off without me realizing it!

I loved those wax bottles with the liquid inside!!! they still sell those, and bottle caps too. I love them both! I haven't ever seen the garbage pail candy??

did you like Pop Rocks? the ones that crackled in your mouth! They make those still... but I only see them around Halloween time.

all this talk is giving me a sweet tooth! I want to pig out on candy now!!!

and Erin... you mean they still make candy cigarettes over there? (the popeye ones)... I would like to see that! :cookie

Shellberry Shortcake - January 26, 2005 03:38 PM (GMT)
Cindie-we have candy ciggys still made here too--you can get them by the case, lol (carton) :P

I love pop rocks--but LOVE Fizz Wizz better..with richie rich on the package..

:wave

Berryblue - January 26, 2005 05:13 PM (GMT)
I will pick up a pack of them next time I go to the dollar store and take some pics.

They still sell Pop Rocks here. I see them at all different places pretty steadily and think it's weird. lol They also sell that garbage candy...I should get some of them too. LOL That is too funny.

Berryblue - January 26, 2005 08:14 PM (GMT)
LOL --- That movie is one of my favorite movies of 2004 for sure :love
I even had to own it. Now that is a rarity for me! :ha

Shellberry Shortcake - January 26, 2005 10:29 PM (GMT)
hmm--we have some coupons for .99 cent rentals--maybe we'll get that one

:mrt

Berryblue - January 26, 2005 11:29 PM (GMT)
I think you'd like it with all its references to the 80s :hkhappy
I actually ended up liking it even more than I thought I was going to! lol

Shellberry Shortcake - January 26, 2005 11:54 PM (GMT)
omg-lol
all 80's? I'll probably love it then :ha

Bob won't be too thrilled..but..oh well :P

wonderberry - January 27, 2005 03:28 AM (GMT)
I thought that movie was cool! but I didn't remember Razzles! I can't believe they still have all that cool candy where you are! and at the dollar store no less! not fair!!!! I'm left out in the :cold

1u11aby1ambie - January 27, 2005 03:47 AM (GMT)
I should get that movie!! Maybe if they talk about it in the movie, some place will bring back Razzles... and I'll have to find my 15+ yr old coupon!!!

Berryblue - January 27, 2005 04:37 PM (GMT)
LOL!! :ha OMG that would be hilarious if you'd be able to use that coupon again! LOL!!!

The movie is basically "Big" (w/Tom Hanks) but with a girl from the 80s *wink wink* I totally loved it.

Cindie, I didn't remember what Razzles were either but they now seem pretty familiar (especially the fact that they can be gum or candy).
If I come across any cool candy, I"ll pick some up... :D

Shellberry Shortcake - January 27, 2005 04:39 PM (GMT)
lol-I don't think razzles were *supposed* to be candy, lol

in the packages some of them had letters on them- if you spelled out
'razzles' you won something--I never spelled it out... :P

Gonna pick up some of this old school candy next time I see it--I promise
:love

wonderberry - January 27, 2005 04:49 PM (GMT)
I can't imagine a candy that's also a gum.... well Shell, you need to watch the move so we can talk about it. i think they did a good job with the 80's style... a lot of the movies now... when they reflect on the "past", their hair is still modern, and their makeup is still modern... and I like it to seem more realistic. I don't have that movie yet... I need to buy it. we went to the video store the other day to buy movies and my husband pointed it out saying I liked that movie and we should buy it. I told him I already had it... I thought I did! we got home and i couldn't find it, so I'm guessing I didn't have it! :mrt <-- omg... Mr T? LOL...

Berryblue - January 27, 2005 04:49 PM (GMT)
I seem to remember the letters on the candies so I bet I had them! :ha
Funny how the mind works... lol

Shellberry Shortcake - January 27, 2005 04:57 PM (GMT)
LOL- :mrt

ok-next trip to the video store I'm grabbing it--I REALLY hope they have it

I may check the for sale section--sometime movies there cost just as much to buy as it does to rent.

God Bless America, lol

Erin--I bet you would know them if you saw them.... :evil
(only using the devil because he is shaking his head yes..not because he's a devil, lol)

Berryblue - January 27, 2005 05:08 PM (GMT)
LOL Shell!
And Cindie, we were typing at the same time before! :ha
I totally agree. They really were able to capture the era in the movie. It really brings back all those memories and feelings with just the way they looked and the way the house and parents looked. :)

1u11aby1ambie - January 27, 2005 10:34 PM (GMT)
Food Network... saw a show about candy... and there was a part on retro candy! Some store still sells/distributes retro candy and they sell "packs" of candy that were popular from different decades. And guess what??? I saw a package of Razzles!!!! I don't remember the letters on them... just that they looked kind of like sweettarts, but smaller in diameter and when you chew it, it is really gum! (At least, I hope I didn't confuse them with another candy.)

fun fact: gummy candies weren't made in the USA until 1982!! :carebear

Shellberry Shortcake - January 28, 2005 12:58 AM (GMT)
ohhh! I saw that show!!!
Mark Sommers the host of double dare was the host!

mmm..gotta make me a list of these candys to get--anyone wanna add to it?

Razzles
Candy Smokes
Fizz Wizz

Berryblue - February 9, 2005 06:52 PM (GMT)

Btw...Shell, have you seen 13 Going on 30 yet?

purplestar - February 9, 2005 08:56 PM (GMT)
13 Going on 30 is a great movie. Jennifer Garner does a fabulous job. She has the funniest faces...like when her boyfriend comes out of the shower
And the Thriller dance scene is so fun to watch. I never knew all the steps but I love that video. What a big deal it was when it first came out, eh?
I never heard of Razzles, though!
