Title: Peach Blush, Plum Puddin', Banana Twirl
Description: Why so expensive?

My sister got a SSC Party Pleaser Peach Blush on Ebay for $20 or so awhile back. Albeit, the doll was naked, and she had to buy her dress separately for another $20 or so, and she's missing her tights and shoes. I've seen Peach Blush recently on Ebay and she goes for A LOT more than what my sis paid! She really lucked out!

But why is it that Peach Blush, Plum Puddin', and Banana Twirl are so expensive? I mean, how hard to find are they? Okay, so Banana Twirl I can understand, since I've only seen her once or twice when I typed it in on Ebay, but I see Plum Puddin' and Peach Blush pretty often.

Even the minis of Peach Blush and Plum Puddin' get expensive! I have a bunch of SSC minis on my desk at work, and I'm only missing Peach Blush, Plum Puddin', and Lem 'n Ada (all of which were too expensive at the time).

I'm not a diehard SSC collector (I only have six dolls and six pets), so I don't understand much of this. Can someone explain why these three (well, two actually, since I can understand why Banana Twirl gets so darn expensive) are so expensive?

Peach Blush & Plum Pudding are both rarer dolls (party pleasers) because less of those were made, plus Plum & Peach were only produced in the party pleaser line & berrykin line... so that makes them more desireable (for people who want only 1 of each character). I think it is this "desirability" factor that drives up the price more.

As for the minis, all the 1984 minis go for more because less of them were produced.

BTW, Peach's shoes can go for $25 by themselves!

As to how hard to find a doll is... have you ever tried looking in thrift stores for them?? How often you think you come across a SSC, and then how often would you come across a Peach/Plum? My friend had been going to thrift stores/doll shows for years, and she has all the common ones, but only a couple party pleasers and NO Peach or Plum!

Thanks, 1u11aby1ambie, but I wasn't looking for them to add to my collection. I was just curious. Being born in 1982, I was only 2 years old in 1984, so I didn't really grasp the concept on less of the dolls being produced, as opposed to Shortcake herself, and the other characters.

Exactly.

I toy with the idea of selling my Party Pleaser dolls a lot actually, but then I think...gahhhh, if I sell them, then I won't have Plum and Peach!
And I don't have Banana...I may never have her either, I am over spending lots of money to complete my collection.

Nice topic, geatornez. I bet there are a lot of folks who wonder why those three characters cost so much. Or the Berrykins line in general.

Well, the unthinkable just happened to me. I bought Peach Blush on ebay last night, and she only cost me $50 with shipping and insurance. So I paid about $10 more than my sister paid for hers, however, my Peach has her tights, s-h-o-e-s, and original hat factory attached. The only thing she's missing is her pet, one of her s-h-o-e-s has a factory flaw (something about a hole where one of the bows is or somethin'), and the velcro on the back of her dress needs a replacement. All in all, not bad, in my opinion.

My mother would probably think I'm crazy for spending $50 on a doll, but I told her Peach usually goes for almost twice what I paid! Anyone have any thoughts on my buy?

EDIT: Minor edit. Had to fix a little something up in the descripton, since I heard the spam filter does some pretty weird stuff (like turning the word s-h-o-e-s into "cloppity clops" if you don't put the hyphens in there.

LOL That's because we had trouble with spammers posting ads for s-h-o-e-s.

But congrats on Peach!! I got my Peach last year via a trade and that was probably about $65 worth of stuff I traded to get her. And I got her pet for cheap, so just keep an eye out!!

That is a decent price. I believe Peach's s-hoes and hat are pretty hard to find. I think that mine was somewhere around $90 and she is complete with pet and in excellent condition. I paid about the same for my Plum.

What I always thought was so cool about Peach Blush was her pet sheep :3
I'd love to have a collection of just all their pets...
